Saw Mitch Easter last night in Los Angeles. I can't remember the last time he played here, but it was some time in the 90's.
Small club (Silverlake Lounge) and not too many people. Of the crowd, quite a few were there for the opening band (Truckee Brothers, who were actually quite good).

Mitch played as a 3 piece just like the wonderful Let's Active, and played a set that mixed songs from his new album with Let's Active classics (Every Word Means No, a killer Waters Part, Reflecting Pool, Crows on a Phone Line and Ornamental).

He sounded great and the few of us that were there to see him clearly loved it. The only disappointing thing was the club had a DJ that was all hot to go, and when Mitch announced he had two more songs to go (bringing the total to only 12 songs) the DJ yelled "one more song". Hell, it wasn't even that late (the show was early, it was 9:10 and Mitch had played less than 1 hour), so Mitch skipped Flags for Everything on the setlist and went right to the last song.

Of course, the crowd starting going into encore mode, but the DJ already started playing. I found this rude and hostile, and when I got a chance to talk to Mitch I apologized (not sure why, I don't own the club), but he said they were warned about the club. But this bitter ending didn't spoil the wonderful show that happened, and Mitch promised he wont take so long until he returns to LA.

I bought the new one from him and it sounds incredible, as did the new songs when he played them live.

8-) I envy you.

(That club sounds awful though.)

Hey Rick. The new CD is incredible. Be sure to pick it up.

Linda, I sent an email to the promoter telling him I thought the actions of the club were disprectful. He emailed right back and said "At 9:30pm we hand Dj duties over to the latin music dj for the rest of the night. I guess he decided to play the music earlier and louder than normal. Our apologies." and when I thanked him for his quick response he responded by offering to put me and a guest on the list of one of the shows he promotes.

I really thought that was a nice gesture, and it ads a little nice note to the end of that story.
