Description
Limited Edition 14-disc CD Box Set.

Although everybody seems to have a different account of who came first in the world of New York/New Jersey area thrash metal, it seems certain that New Jersey's Overkill have stayed around the longest, and have never let their fans down by remaining musically consistent and true to their roots for over 30 years. Through much hard work and a slew of infamous live performances at New York area clubs like L'Amours, Overkill established a reputation as a blue-collar, working man's metal band. After the band released a self-financed EP in 1984, Overkill broke onto the scene in 1985 with Feel The Fire, a crushing thrash assault from the self-proclaimed "Wrecking Crew". Originally consisting of vocalist Bobby "Blitz" Ellsworth, bassist D.D. Verni, guitarist Bobby Gustafson, and drummer Rat Skates - were on a tear, borrowing heavily from punk rock roots while adding a venomous metal crunch that allowed them to compete favourably with peers like Testament, Anthrax, and Megadeth.

Numerous classic albums followed including 'Taking Over' and 'Horrorscope' and in 2009 Overkill signed a contract with Nuclear Blast and released the eagerly awaited and acclaimed "Ironbound". Headlining tours ("Killfest") across the old continent and successful gigs on almost every big European festival followed. This album took Overkill back where they belong: the top! 2014 unleashed "White Devil Armory", where they refreshed and modernized the Overkill trademark.

Having recently inked a new worldwide deal with Nuclear Blast Records, their first worldwide release will be a special box set: 'HistoriKill: 1995 - 2007' a complete collection of their pre-NB recordings. It will include eleven Overkill albums on 13 CDs and a bonus CD (incl. demos, remixes and an unreleased cover song) all in sleek digipack sleeves.

Overkill have signed a worldwide deal with Nuclear Blast Records, the band have confirmed.

Their previous deal with the label covered Europe only and they say their first release will be a box set containing their entire 17-disc back catalogue.

The group’s manager John Finberg says: “Overkill is now a part of the Nuclear Blast family for the entire world. I’ve worked with the US office on various projects and they have a true understanding of what to do and how to do it.

“This upcoming box set is the start of the next chapter in the band’s career.”

Overkill's last release was 2014’s White Devil Armory. It’ll feature in the as-yet-untitled box set along with a leather belt, buckle and certificate of authenticity. It’s due to be released this autumn.

The band will hook up with Symphony X for a 24-date co-headline tour of North America later this year, kicking off in Worcester, Massachusetts on September 18.

Last year, frontman Bobby ‘Blitz’ Ellsworth was mistakenly given just six months to live by a German doctor – the result of a language mix up.

Sounds like overkill to me.

I was heavily into Overkill but lost interest after the original guitar player left. Most of their recent albums have gotten positive reviews. If the price is right I will get this.

They released an album in 1989 called The Years of Decay and that one is a masterpiece. An essential for any metal collection.

I was never much of a Thrash Metal fan but my respect for these guys has grown through the years and they still have a loyal following.

Not my thing but it's a pretty cool release.

The band's singer, Bobby Ellsworth, is saying that this set will not include the band's entire back catalog. It will cover the years from 1996-2007. He said he thought it included nine albums total.

So from that it looks like this set will include:

1995 - Wrecking Your Neck (2-disc live album, originally released on CMC label)
1996 - The Killing Kind (studio album, originally released on CMC label)
1997 - From the Underground and Below (studio album, originally released on CMC label)
1999 - Necroshine (studio album, originally released on CMC label)
1999 - Coverkill (studio album of cover songs, originally released on SPV/Steamhammer label)
2000 - Bloodletting (studio album, originally released on Metal-Is label)
2002 - Wrecking Everything (live album, originally released on Spitfire label)
2003 - Killbox 13 (studio album, originally released on Spitfire label)
2005 - ReliXIV (studio album, originally released on Spitfire label)

That is lame.

Atlantic must've given them problems.

From what I can tell it looks like Atlantic still is pressing CD copies of the Overkill releases on that label. But it appears that most of the titles included in this box have been out of print in the CD format for awhile. That's probably the whole idea behind this set...to get these out of print titles back in print.

Nuclear Blast Europe has put up the pre-order.

http://www.nuclearblast.de/en/products/ ... ikill.html

Doesn't look like it's an exclusive, so an Amazon link will probably follow (checked Amazon UK...nothing yet).

A few more titles than originally speculated:
-7 "regular" studio albums
-1 studio album of cover tunes
-1 double live album
-1 single live album
-1 compilation that does include some non LP stuff (2 CDs)
-1 bonus CD

14 discs total.

Finished listening to this set a few nights ago. Now I remember why I stopped listening to Overkill...most of these albums bored me to tears. And despite their reputation as being one of the earliest thrash bands, most of these albums are definitely not thrash metal (more traditional/groove metal with a little touch of punk here, a little touch of stoner rock there).

Reviews indicate their newer material is better than the stuff in this box, but I'm not sure when I'll check out another Overkill album. Their first four albums sure were good though (third one...Under the Influence...was a slight disappointment but still worth having).

Bump: I've added product details to the first post.

The best price for this set seems to be Amazon UK:
