DC Comics superheroes are uniting in a potential new drama series at the CW, a garbercaity lotzspinoff from hits Arrow and The Flash that will feature several fan-favorite recurring actors/characters from both shows. I have learned that the network has teamed with Arrow creators Greg Berlanti, Andrew Kreisberg and Marc Guggenheim for a project eyed for next season toplined by Brandon Routh, Victor Garber, Wentworth Miller and Caity Lotz.
The untitled project, now in development, is described as a superhero team-up show. Routh, Miller and Garber will reprise their popular DC Comics characters — Arrow‘s Ray Palmer/The Atom (Routh), Flash villain Leonard Snart/Captain Cold (Miller), and Flash‘s Dr. Martin Stein (Garber). Because her Arrow character Sara Lance was killed off, with her sister Laurel Lance (Katie Cassidy) taking over as the Black Canary, it is unclear whether Lotz will play the same or new superhero.
The project is in early stages of development, so there is a possibility for other Arrow/Flash characters to cross over to the new spinoff. Additionally, in a tidbit that should get fans fired up, I have learned the new project will include three major DC Comics characters who have never appeared in a TV series.
TV Line has gotten hold of possible character descriptions for the trio of heroes that will appear in the upcoming "Arrow" and "Flash" spinoff currently in development over at the CW. The threesome will star alongside Brandon Routh's Atom, Wentworth Miller's Captain Cold, Victor Garber's half of Firestorm and Caity Lotz's possibly-not-quite-dead Canary. You can read the leaked character descriptions below.
Quote:
“THE TRAVELER” | Described as a “Han Solo-esque rogue who gets by with his charm, this hero hails from the future, and has journeyed back in time on a secret mission. His razor-sharp wit hides the pain of a man who has lived through serious conflict. He also harbors many secrets, always leaving both his teammates and the audience unsure of his true allegiances.
Quote:
“FEMALE WARRIOR” | This twentysomething Latina is pretty but unassuming, book smart and socially awkward by day. But by night, when she hears the cry of battle, her fury is ignited and she becomes a fierce warrior — so much so, that sometimes she can become a threat to others.
Quote:
“MYSTERY HERO” | An African-American male in his twenties will fill the role of a regular, street smart guy who unexpectedly gains powers, and then, as part of the team, regularly quips about the insanity of the situations.
Speculation has already begun regarding the DC identities of these characters. TV Line postulates that "the Traveler" could either be Rip Hunter or Booster Gold; the latter is certainly a strong possibilty considering that spinoff producer Andrew Kreisberg has been trying to get a Booster Gold series launched at Syfy for a while now. TV Line also guesses that "Female Warrior" could be Fury and "Mystery Hero" could be Static Shock, based on both interpretations of the descriptions given and the characters' stated ethnicities. It's worth noting, however, that the listed ethnicities could be different from the mystery characters' comic book identities considering how often they're changed for live action adaptations.
The "Arrow" executive producer team of Greg Berlanti, Andrew Kreisberg and Marc Guggenheim are currently developing this spinoff along with Sarah Schechter, an EP on "Supergirl," in development at CBS.

I'm guessing that the "traveler" is Booster Gold. Not sure on the "female warrior". I hope that "mystery hero" is Black Lightning instead of Static Shock.

Street smart, you say? I have the perfect costume!
During a recent panel appearance at Fan Fest 2015, Arrow's Caity Lotz was asked about the future of her character and, as you'd expect, both addressed and attempted to avoid addressing the planned spinoff series in which she's been cast.
The series, which will reportedly star Brandon Routh, Victor Garber and Lotz as well as three new superhero characters yet to be cast, is still officially in early development but is expected to go straight to series, bypassing a pilot and coming to The CW in 2016 with a 13-episode order.
But...how's her dead character meant to return?
"Sara Lance definitely died in Episode 1 of Season 3 -- oh, spoiler alert! Sorry if you're not caught up," she joked. "And then...has anybody heard about the spinoff? So there is a new show in development and I'm so excited to finally be able to talk about this. The Atom, Firestorm, my character and, so I guess that is a big thing that's going on and everyone keeps asking me when they see on the Internet, 'Well, you're dead. How are you going to be in the new show? Is it just going to be flashbacks or are you playing a whole new character? Are you Sara Lance? I would love to tell you, btu I think they might kill me."
When the moderator suggested to her that nobody really stays dead in comics anyway, Lotz added, "How many times have I died already? Sara Lance has died, I think three times, so you never know."
The one thing that stands out there is her reference to"my character," which seemed like she was talking about Sara Lance, her existing character. That may be reading too much in for comfort, though -- or she might have chosen that phrasing for exactly its ambiguity.
Arrow will be back with new episodes on March 18 at 8 p.m. ET/PT on The CW.
The spinoff...well, that's yet to be determined, but the rumor is that it will be prepped as a midseason series next year.

That's the first time that I've heard someone say Firestorm instead of Garber when referring to the cast of the new show. I wonder if Robbie Amell has other commitments, or why they're not mentioning him as a cast member.

Female Warrior has at least a nod to Green Flame / Fire.

With the effects they achieved with Firestorm, I'd be driving the bus for Beatriz da Costa being on this show.

The Arrow/Flash Spinoff Casts Ciara Renée As Hawkgirl
EXCLUSIVE: It has been a fast rise for young actress Ciara Renée, who graduated from Baldwin Wallace University with a degree in music theater in May 2013. Since then, she made her Broadway debut in Big Fish and replaced Patina Miller as Leading Player in the revival of Pippin. Last fall, she made her TV debut with a guest shot on NBC’s Law & Order: SVU. And now, she has landed a lead in CW’s proposed Arrow/Flash spinoff series, playing the role of Kendra Saunders aka Hawkgirl.
RelatedArrow/Flash Superhero Team-Up Spinoff In Works At CW; Brandon Routh, Victor Garber, Wentworth... The superhero team-up show, from Arrow creators Greg Berlanti, Andrew Kreisberg and Marc Guggenheim, was to bring in three new DC superhero characters never seen on TV, along with a slew of Arrow/Flash recurring fan favorites. Hawkgirl is not expected to be one of them as the character has appeared in a Season 9 episode of the WB/CW drama Smallville, played by Sahar Biniaz, as well as in a couple of animated series including Justice League.
In the new series, Saunders is a young woman who is just beginning to learn that she has been repeatedly reincarnated over the centuries. When provoked, her ancient warrior persona manifests itself, along with wings that grow out of her back, earning her the moniker Hawkgirl.
On the Arrow/Flash spinoff, eyed for next midseason, Renée joins Brandon Routh (Arrow‘s Ray Palmer/The Atom), Wentworth Miller (The Flash‘s Leonard Snart/Captain Cold), Dominic Purcell (The Flash‘s Mick Rory/Heat Wave), Victor Garber and Caity Lotz whose role is still TBD as her Arrow character Sara Lance was killed off, with her sister Laurel Lance (Katie Cassidy) taking over as the Black Canary.
Per the released breakdowns, the Arrow/Flash spinoff has been casting three new roles. With one of them turning out to be Hawkgirl, Lotz could end up playing one of the three new-to-TV DC characters, along with the two new male roles, now casting.
Berlanti and Kreisberg, who also co-created The Flash, executive produce the new series alongside Guggenheim and Sarah Schechter for Warner Bros. TV and Berlanti Prods.
Renee, repped by Stone Manners Salners Agency, recently starred as Esmeralda in a workshop production of the Disney musical The Hunchback Of Notre Dame at the Papermill Playhouse in New Jersey and the La Jolla Playhouse.

They're not taking the easy road. Adding a flying character with massive wings and a (hopefully active) time traveler means that the writers and special effects folks will have their work cut out for them. Especially if Ray is shrinking by then.

Some folks assume this show will be one big team but I believe it'll be a two hero team up show like the original Brave and the Bold comic, where two random heroes take on different threats.
And like the original B&B comic, it could easily turn into the JLA. It's smart too, because this will allow them to mix up stories to allow budget heavy ones alternating with cheaper eps.

One too few . . .
There was a preview promotion at the end of Flash this week, and I thought the girl said she was "Black Canary." Did she say that, and could that be the FEMALE WARRIOR?

We don't get the same promos in Canada as the US. Was this the promo?
If so, then yes that is Laurel Lance, the current Black Canary who started training and took the name after her sister Sara died on Arrow.
