Sad news. I mostly know his work with The Pentangle and only a little of his solo work, but what a talented and influential guitar player he was. R.I.P., Mr. Renbourn.
This is sad news. I especially recommend A Maid In Bedlam, Faro Annie, Sir John A Lot Of (if you only get one, this is the one to get); + his work with Stefan Grossman & Pentangle. Far as I'm concerned Pentangle was basically JR & Jacqie McShee, though the others were obviously talented also.

I was just thinking that one of my best friends who passed a few years ago was a huge Renbourn fan & they knew each other pretty well. Hopefully they'll meet again wherever we go when we pass.
I also casually met JR a couple times, though very casually. He was a really nice guy, & recommended D'Addario Strings to me for acoustics, which I use exclusively for acoustics to this day.
This whole death thing SUCKS. I've been saying for years that the reason I don't have a lot of friends is because of my home based businesses.
There is another reason: Most of my friends are dead.

I agree that it's sad news. I will mildly disagree with your thoughts about Pentangle- I like McShee and liked Renbourn, but I think Jansch deserves equal credit as well. I recommend any Pentangle album, and also the "Live In America" album.

You just beat me to it in mentioning Danny Thompson. I saw him and Richard Thompson playing about 20 years ago and loved the show. This discussion reminds me to look again at the Pentangle set mentioned in "From the Vaults."
Oops. That's the new Fotheringay set, not Pentangle. Oh, well.

Sorry Geff. I hope we didn't sound like we were ganging up on you. I just always felt like Pentangle was the result of equally brilliant musicians. Never considered one of them more essential (or more talented) than any others.
