Why not have a thread for the tournament? So, not only did the Albany Great Danes make the Dance this year, but we're a 14th seed! Go Danes! So they face off against Oklahoma in Friday's game. I can dream, can't I?

Georgia State over Baylor on a last second shot with their hobbled coach (injured from celebrating getting into the tournament) and UAB beating Iowa State by 1 point: awesome.
Two 14 seeds taking down 3 seeds on Day 1.

My alma mater Rutgers will be watching on TV again, but locally we have Villanova starting right now and I believe they could win the whole thing.

Nice win for a UCLA team that many said didn't belong. Tough break for Larry Brown, but that's the way the balls bounce. I always root for St. Johns-they have a tough opponent. I will be shocked if anyone beats Kentucky.

My team is Kentucky. We are OK this year. I hope we can win a game or two.

I would say Kentucky has a shot.

This entire first round has merely been leading up to the main event on Friday night: my alma mater North Dakota State's shocking upset of the 2-seed Gonzaga (I hope!).

LSU shoots themselves in the foot and misses key shots and free throws to allow NC State to come back and win. Has happened all year, I suppose it is fitting for them to end their season this way.

Albany goes down to Oklahoma 69-60. They shot 38% from the floor, and worse than that in the second half.
I'll be rooting for Wisconsin now, my mother's alma mater.

And then there were eight ... The tourney is down to the Elite Eight now, and no Cinderella in sight. The remaining matchups feature two number 1 vs. 2 seed pairings (Wisconsin-Arizona , Duke-Gonzaga), a 1 vs. 3 seed (Kentucky-Notre Dame), and a no. 4 vs. no. 7 seed (Louisville-Michigan State). No Big XII conference teams are left, but three ACC schools are still alive. (And why exactly did the selection committee put three ACC teams in the East bracket, and only one each in the other three regions? I thought they were supposed to spread teams from the same conference better than that). I still have six of the final eight teams alive in my bracket

Damn did the Fighting Irish almost pull off the upset of the year. What a year they had. Now it's up to Wisconsin.

Every year we do a couple little family pools - one with all of us (although this was the first year my daughter played), and one side bet between my son and wife.
The mother/son pool came down to the Wisconsin-Arizona game (they were the same the rest of the way). My son had Arizona. Usually they bet chores, but the didn't finalize anything this year, so I'm not sure what they're going to do.
The family pool is for dinner - winner gets to pick a place for dinner an no one gets to beg off (although my daughter might since she lives away - which also tells you she didn't win). This may have been the earliest it was ever over - Saturday's games didn't matter. Not sure when it was actually decided. But for the first time in years, I won. I'm trying to figure out if I can make them all drive three hours to get Famous Dave's.

On, Wisconsin! The Badgers avenge last year's loss, and end Kentucky's bid for a perfect season.
Wisconsin/Duke on Monday night for the national championship.

Personally, I blame the Yankees. The last 6 times UK won the national championship, the Yankees have won the World Series the following fall. It is apparent that the Yankees are not up to the task this year...

Wisconsin/Duke on Monday night for the national championship. i agree with you jim, but it probably just killed tonight's TV ratings. lots of people wanting to see a perfect season won't be watching now, i would guess anyway.

I must say, some really questionable officiating in that game, especially down the stretch. Non-calls, wrong calls, iffy fouls. But it went both ways--not that it excuses the situation.
