A new Eric Clapton retrospective collection called "Forever Man" will be released in various formats ahead of his of planned 70th birthday concerts this spring.

Reprise Records will be releasing "Forever Man" on April 28th in various formats including 3 disc CD package, a double CD package, a 2-LP vinyl set and digitally.

The 3-disc set will include 51 tracks and feature material from Clapton's years at Reprise that spans three decades including studio tracks on one disc, live tracks on a second disc and a special blues themed disc.

The 2-disc collection will feature studio track collection on one disc and the blues themed tracks on the second disc and the vinyl collection will feature the studio tracks.

As we reported last week, Clapton will turn 70 on March 30th and he announced that he will be celebrating with fans with two concerts at Madison Square Garden in New York City on May 1st and 2nd.

I agree, what a snooze-fest. They couldn't have come up with some live or studio rarities? Definitely phoning it in.

I am surprised there is not at least one track unavailable anywhere else to milk the diehard collectors. Not that anyone here fits that description.

There is assumption that all fans have bought all albums (including the live) ones. I certainly haven't so I might get this one to fill in some blanks.

Of course I'll get the 3-CD set. But adding a DVD of his 80s and 90s videos would've been a nice selling point.

I should one day count all the freakin Clapton comps and other special editions I have around here (and never listen too).

The 2-CD set actually has CD-2 as the Live set, not the Blues.

This has some tracks that I don't have and at 3 discs, hardly just another comp. I'm in.

the question being just how many tracks that you don't have, and can you get them on their original CD's at very low used prices?

(almost all clapton albums are quite cheap and can be found all over in the used bins)
