I haven't been in a comic book shop for a while, so bear with me. I just found out that there's a new comic called Spider-Gwen.
(In other news, there's a sled named Rosebud and Darth Vader is Luke Skywalker's father...)
I figured there was another thread at IMWAN where I can find out where there was discussion about this book so I can quickly find out what the hell this is all about. (My first reaction? Marvel is stealing ideas for books from fan-fiction sites.) But a search at IMWAN for "Spider-Gwen" shows the top Spider-Man threads at IMWAN are about upcoming movies? Any idea about where I should go?
Thank you, Mr. Spock. Your response has been duly noted.
So yup---this is basically fanfiction in official print. Might want to visit Comicboards because I'll bet there are a ton of "May Parker" Spider-Girl fans annoyed at this series. (Then again maybe I'm wrong and they love it. But I doubt that I'm wrong.)
So if Gwen becomes the Spider-Person, does that mean Peter is going to be killed to give her something to angst over? "Men in Refrigerators" anyone?

Thank you, Linda. I thought that there was SOME place where this book or character was being discussed. Apparently not. I do wonder what is going to happen to this alternate version of Gwen Stacy after the upcoming "Crisis on Infinite Marvel Earths" takes places. I hope they think of something better than recreate her death---AGAIN. I'm not saying she should be absorbed into the Marvel Universe, I'm just saying don't kill her off for the sake of killing her off. There are other ways of shunting her aside.
Here she is...

In her world, her Peter Parker was killed through her actions. But he did turn himself into the Lizard.
Like I said, this is fanfiction in print.
I don't know if Roger Stern still posts here, but if he does I wonder what he would say about the challenges he came up with writing original stories for May "Spider-Girl" Parker rather than simply rehashing classic stories that were already told in Spider-Man.

So apparently Gwen Stacy is a drummer. Why am I envisioning a comic where she discovers to her horror that J.Jonah Jameson is her new band teacher? (Yes, it's a Whiplash joke.)

Marvel won't bring back the real Gwen Stacy, but apparently clones and Spider-variants are okay.
If the original death was crappy, I'm sure that Gwen would have been brought back by now. But to bring the original back from the dead would be to piss on one of the best Spider-Man storylines in the first decade. I think that for the same reason, we aren't going to see Jim Wilson (who was killed off in a Peter A. David storyline about AIDS) come back to Hulk anytime soon.
