Not a fan yet but I always like it when a band does some serious hose cleaning music wise (rounding up lose songs yet to be released) before calling it quits. Sometimes an album release like this can actually end up being such a "HUGE" money maker for them it breathes no life and purpose into the group in question. Or it could just end up being a painful reminder as to why the band in question didn't call it quits a whole lot earlier, LOL.

I hear ya-much like what Pink Floyd did this year.
This Scorps album is newly written material and newly recorded versions of songs that never made it back in the day.
This single is pretty good, but I expect better on the rest of the album.

(Classic Rock) The Scorpions have spoken about their new album, Return To Forever, the follow-up to 2011's Comeblack, and published a lyric video for the single We Built This House.
"In the end, it tells our story, says Klaus Meine. "We've built this house called Scorpions brick by brick and often quite arduously. From the first days in Hannover, the first concerts abroad, until this very day. We've weathered severe storms, but the house withstood everything, turned out to be weather proof and stable. However, building the house was never just cumbersome, but joyful as well. The joy of music, the joy of having experienced and still experiencing it all, the joy of - and the thankfulness for - the fans' affection. We have been working hard for this dream, but we're thankful as well for having been able to live it, and for still being able to live it today."
The album marks half a century since the band's formation in provincial Hannover. "It's really remarkable", says Rudolf Schenker, "how well and mostly unharmed we've survived those years, in which our kind of music seemed to have gotten out of style completely. When the grunge wave hit the shore, we simply went to Asia to tap new markets and gain new fans. We were able to continue playing and keep on winning new friends for our music."

The Scorpions will release Return To Forever on February 23 as they begin their 50th anniversary celebrations this year.
The project is the band’s first new studio album since 2011’s covers album, Comeblack, and a farewell tour that was eventually reversed when the group decided to continue because they simply had “too much fun” to call it quits.
Return To Forever will include some vintage Scorpions tracks from the 1980s that were never completed back in the day.
Guitarist Matthias Jabs tells The Rockpit that the group had plenty of material to draw on for the new package.
He says: "There had been quite a few over the years, ideas that were really good but in the end didn't make the cut back then due to the limited space on vinyl and later on CD.
“We quickly had eight songs, which partly had to be finalised first and were then recorded from scratch. During the work, increasingly new song ideas were added.
“We had so much fun working and suddenly we found ourselves in the middle of the songwriting process once again. And in the end, it turned out to be a brand-new Scorpions album after all."
Return To Forever will be available as a digital download, standard CD, limited-edition CD with four bonus songs, double LP, a 50th anniversary box set and an audiobook featuring track-by-track interviews, an exclusive t-shirt, postcard, EP, USB key and backstage pass.
The Scorpions will launch their 50th anniversary tour on May 8 in the Czech Republic followed by an extensive series of dates in Russia. They’ll return to the UK in July to play the inaugural Ramblin’ Man Fair.

Musically this is much better than i expected.
The lyrics are very weak & it is quite brickwalled.
I assume this leaked already?
So disgusting bands still record albums for their fans even though they won't make much money only to have scumbags leak it so it can be listened to for free.
That is not you Geff-all you did was take what was there for you.
No wonder the industry is in the toilet though. They weren't prepared for what was coming even though they were warned.

Bump: This has been brought forward -- already out in the UK, and listed for this Tuesday at Amazon (see links in first post). Amazon USA still shows this album as an import, however.
ETA: I've replaced the missing video from upthread. It's just the audio of the song, not a promo proper. This album's lackadaisical promotion and murky distribution has been pretty strange for a band the stature of Scorpions.

Many times.
They were offered opportunities to do an iTunes-type thing, but they balked. CDs were selling just fine and they couldn't be bothered to get on board with downloading.
I'm not saying that this would have stopped free downloading, but if music buyers had a legitimate way to get their downloads, many of them would've.
Someone outside the music industry showed them how downloading was done (Shawn Fanning) and another one outside the industry (Steve Jobs) showed them how it could be done and make beaucoups of money at the same time.

Once Amazon & I-Tunes start selling lossless, it will put another dent in illegal dl'ing. In fact, Pono is already doing it, but they're way overpriced for 44/16 catalog files. Get cd quality albums down to $5 or so (& include a full pdf booklet), & it will put a huge dent in illegal dl'ing.

It's out (ordering links are upthread), but it looks like it was import-only.
The second version of the video disappeared from Pete's post (and from YouTube altogether), so I've replaced it with the lyric video of the same song, which I hope will last for a while.
This might be the oddest, most half-baked and inexplicable rollout of a new album by a major band that I've ever seen. Get new management, Scorpions.

It did come out as import only which is so odd.
The last studio album was Sting in the Tail which was a strong seller here.
This new album went Top 10 in many countries (#2 in Germany) and made the UK Top 40.
So...what the hell happened?
They're touring the US, so it makes no damn sense.
Talk about a botch-job.
I agree. Even the tour is weird. They're billing it as their 50th Anniversary tour, but there are only eight US dates listed, then it's back to Europe through the end of the year. I'm wondering if they're planning to do a more extensive tour of the US in 2016 If so, maybe they're withholding the US release to coincide with a more extensive US tour. I dunno...
