To me, it's so obviously gold and white I'm stunned there's even a discussion. My wife thinks it's blue and some olive color.

It's so weird. Has the actual maker or owner of the dress spoke up yet?

Never mind that....WHAT ABOUT THE LLAMAS??

It's black and blue.

The reason for that is in how brain process color. Have you ever taken a picture at noon only to see that the picture has a strong bluish cast? That's normal for noon, and during the day daylight changes, having sunset there is a pinkish hue, for example. But our eyes are trained to account for all that, an automatic White Balance like cameras have, so we see don't see those differences most of the time.

That pic has a strong blue and gold cast, and depending on what our brains chose to account for, we see the dress' colors differently. It's really, really weird.

My girlfriend showed it to me yesterday and it was the same as with you and your wife (though I'm the one seeing the black/blue). It's was a strange experience. We were seeing the same picture under the same circumstances and we saw two completely different things.

My kids showed it to me last night, and I thought it was a trick. Clearly gold and white to me. One of them saw the blue version.

How can it be black? We've discovered that half the world are liars.

I'm thinking those of you seeing white must have brain damage. Consult your local physician, immediately.

The gold. The white looks blue to us.

I've literally had it switch on me. Most of the time it's white and gold. Then I'll leave the room and come back and it's suddenly blue and black. Sorcery is the most likely explanation. Or aliens.

I used a snip tool to capture a square right from the middle of the gold, up at the top of the picture.

The square I snipped out, by itself, looks pretty black.



In the picture it looks like the color of deli mustard.

Note to self: Do not eat at Jay's deli.

That happened to me as well. It's freaky.

I just left and came back. It never stops being blue.

I can see how the "black" could be olive, or dark gold maybe...I just assume it's something with the lighting in the picture makes the black look something other than what it is.

But I'm honestly baffled by anyone who sees white in there. How? YOU'RE ALL MAD!!!

That's how us Blues see it. We can't understand how some can see white.

But maybe it I'll happen to you as well and you'll catch a glimpse of the white and gold.

It is clearly black with blue highlights.

For those that are generally fascinated by this kind of thing, I highly recommend this book, Incognito. It's all about how our brains are essentially creating a movie for us to perceive reality. We are not cameras perceiving the world. We are viewers of a film that our brain is constantly editing together using some intelligent guesswork.
