Single?

Album?

CD?

Concert?

Unless I'm searching the wrong terms, it seems we've never done a thread like this before (maybe it was all the way back on the old ICE forum). Thought it'd be fun to compare notes.

Single: "Winchester Cathedral"--New Vaudeville Band

Album: The Monkees (debut)

CD: She's The Boss--Mick Jagger (a Christmas present from my best friend, several months before I bought a player)

Concert: The Who (at Forest Hills tennis stadium, 1971)

Album? Tina Turner: Private Dancer

CD? Best of Bob Dylan (vol. 1)

Concert? Not counting church stuff, The Cult on their Sonic Temple tour. Jason Bonham opened.

Single: "A Hard Day's Night" b/w "I Should Have Known Better" by The Beatles. I remember staring at the Capitol swirl spinning around hypnotically as it played.

Album: Shari Lewis Sings, or maybe Popeye Sings, or Bozo Sings. I had a few of those before I graduated to real albums such as Soupy Sales Sings and Batman Sings.

CD: Compact Snap! by The Jam (like Jimbo, a few months before I bought my first player).

Concert: The Kinks at Brooklyn College.

CD- The Beatles-Tony Sheridan sessions. Back then, I was going to buy ONLY Beatle CDs.

Concert- Grass Roots/Raspberries and one other band at the Capitol Theater in Passaic. Our school won this free concert because we wrote the name of some chewing gum on cards more than other schools.

Single: "Sister Mary Elephant" by Cheech & Chong (me & my older siblings each had our own copy of this 45)

Album: My parents only had a handful of albums in the house which I listened to regularly (Meet The Beatles, Hank Williams' Greatest Hits, Herb Alpert & The Tijuana Brass, etc), but the first album I remember purchasing myself was Kiss "Alive"

CD: I bought four CDs with my first player in July 1985, but I only remember three of them: Yes "90125," Pink Floyd "The Dark Side Of The Moon" (Harvest edition which was stolen in college) and Led Zeppelin "IV." Not sure why I can't recall CD #4.

Concert: Cheap Trick (with The Romantics opening) at Madison Square Garden, May 1980.

Single - don't have a clue. It was a long time ago.

Album - the first I remember seeing an album in a store and saying "I want to buy this" was "The World Of Johnny Cash". I'm pretty sure I had a couple of his albums by then, but that's the first one I remember seeing in the rack, at a G.C. Murphy five and dime store.

CD - I bought three, but the only one I remember now is Phil Collins' "No Jacket Required". I think "Synchronicity" by the Police was another, but can't swear to it.

Concert - this one I know. Johnny Cash, April 1971. Carl Perkins, the Statler Brothers, the Carter Family and June Carter Cash. I was seven years old and still remember trembling that I was in the same building as Johnny Cash. First rock concert was Kiss on the Dynasty tour, July 1979. New England was the opener. I bought a tour shirt for $7 and a program for $5. I still have the program, but I got rid of the shirt sometime after it became more like a wrist band on me.

Single: The Reflex by Duran Duran (hey, I think I only ever bought 5-6 singles)

Album: Either Beauty and the Beat (The Go-Go's), Tattoo You (Rolling Stones) or Freeze Frame (J.Geils Band); Guess how old I am :-)

CD: The Best of The Sweet. The first buy was something I couldn't get on Cassette.

Concert: The Beach Boys somewhere between 84 / 85 (on the parent's dime). Alice Cooper's the Nightmare Returns in early 87(on my dime)

Jason

While cleaning up after Sandy, I found my Moody Blues t-shirt from 1973--my first concert without tagging along with my older brother. It was about the size of a doll's clothing.
