Whitesnake’s New Album Focuses on David Coverdale’s Deep Purple Era
David Coverdale will return to his time as lead singer for Deep Purple during their Mark III and IV eras for an upcoming album with Whitesnake.
After a lengthy build-up, Coverdale shared the above video for “Stormbringer,” originally the title track from a 1974 Coverdale-era Deep Purple project. “Stormbringer” will now close out the standard edition of Whitesnake’s The Purple Album, which will be released on May 19.
A lengthy tour has also been announced, with more dates to come. The complete track listing — including extras for an expanded edition of the album — as well as upcoming concert dates and cities are below.
This will be Whitesnake’s first studio work since the departure of guitarist Doug Aldrich, who joined the band in 2002. Aldrich had contributed to 2008′s Good to Be Bad and 2011′s Forevermore, as well as live albums like Made in Japan and Made in Britain/The World Record, both from 2013. The band took a touring haitus in 2012 to oversee the concert LPs.
Aldrich has been replaced by ex-Night Ranger guitarist Joel Hoekstra, who was featured in what appeared to be an album teaser two weeks ago.

I'm also curious where they're playing in Tacoma (my home town). If it's a reasonably priced ($20 or under) club gig, I might go.
No way it's $20.
I saw them in AC in 2005 and it was $40 and well worth it.
I'll see them in AC again.
I just interviewed Joel Hoekstra before Christmas-very, very nice guy and an amazing guitarist from his work with Night Ranger, solo and Trans Siberian Orchestra who he does double duty with.

I like Whitesnake but this is a POS idea. No interest in buying this whatsoever. Burn was great, good luck improving on anything from that record. Stormbringer was hit and miss, some good stuff but nothing really worth redoing. For whatever reason I never liked Come Taste The Band which makes no sense as I am a big Tommy Bolin fan. And many of these songs just wouldn't sound right with Coverdale singing the parts that Glenn Hughes originally sang.

I agree with you re: Come Taste The Band; it was dreadful. Probably the worst album DP ever made.

I used to feel that way in high school but now I realize that is one of DP's best albums.
Stormbringer has loads of great cuts (the title song, Gypsy, Solider of Fortune, Lady Double Dealer, High Ball Shooter, etc.) but a few are awful.
I've seen Whitesnake do both "Burn" and "Stormbringer" live as far back as 2005, as well as "Soldier of Fortune".
On top of that, in 1978 Whitesnake played Deep Purple songs and did a killer version of "Might Just Take Your Life" (not to mention an amazing "Mistreated") where Bernie Marsden hits the Glenn Hughes parts perfectly. (I interviewed Bernie for my book too-what a fantastic person he is).
This isn't new for Whitesnake at all to be doing these songs.
A whole studio album? Yeah, but DP songs? No.

I like the version of Stormbringer and will be getting The Purple Album when it comes out . I never really thought of Mk 3 & 4 as Deep Purple . A very good band yes , but Deep Purple no . To me DP was Mk 2 cause that's what I was brought up on .
