Quote:
An extensive reissue programme for Townshend’s solo material that will see the catalogue remastered and reworked is planned to start later this year and will run into 2016.

This is great news. I just hope that these aren't reissues of his expanded albums of several years ago.

I would love to get deluxe editions of his solo albums, but the word "reworked" in the quote above has me frightened.

+1.

I have visions of the "fixed" 'Eminence Front'.

Even so, I'll most likely buy "Chinese Eyes" at the very least.

And I was thinking about Who Are You. Didn't he replace one song ("Guitar And Pen"?) with a completely different take, or at least the same take with a different guitar solo?

The previous remasters were just fine.

I'm expecting loads and loads of solo demos here and that's just not my thing.

I will be curious though.

Empty Glass, Chinese Eyes (my favorite) and White City were fantastic. The rest? Pretty bad, with each having some great songs at least.

Empty Glass is still the best Who album they didn't make. (Can The Who swap out Endless Wire and pretend they did Empty Glass)?

Pete, I never got the last round of remasters...I still have the original CD pressings...so a sonic upgrade with bonus material would be great for me. I agree about those three albums being his best, and I've always enjoyed "Who Came First" (although I doubt that would be part of this remaster series). The only album I consider pretty bad is "The Iron Man." I have an affinity for "Psychoderelict" and thought the tour was fantastic.

Add some tracks from the "McVicar" soundtrack to "Empty Glass" and you've got a truly spectacular Who album.

"Endless Wire" had its moments but they should have waited until Starkey was available to record with them. That would have made a huge difference.

It's funny...Iron Man is really lousy but the good songs are so good (including the 2 Who songs) that I almost enjoy it.

Psychoderelict is a very tough listen for me-the words overwhelm a lot of the music for me. There's some good material in there but it's hard to digest. We were going to see the tour but the show was cancelled due to poor ticket sales.

No argument here, but I'd say that it's tied with Roger and Wilko's "Going Back Home" album

Have you seen the music-only version of "Psychoderelict"? I haven't seen one in a while and I never picked it up, but I saw several comments that people liked it w/o the voiceover stuff.

I hated the dialogue version until I saw Pete play it live. I liked it a lot after that and still do. Perhaps his most under-rated album. The music-only version is quite good as well.

I was working at Atlantic when Psychoderelict was released, and I seem to remember a promo-only edition that had the dialogue version as well as the music-only version. I enjoyed both. I think some people were confused by the "music only" description, assuming it was an instrumental disc.

I loved that Mark Brzezicki played drums on the album while Simon Phillips drummed on Big Country's "Buffalo Skinners" album the same year, but the two of them switched roles on the subsequent tours. I saw both in concert in '93 and they were great shows.

I have one of those. Got it pretty cheap from a used bin a while back.

I believe they excised any questionable language from both discs in that set, so I still needed to get an official copy to own the unedited version of the album.

I have one of those too. Got back then from a place on St. Mark's Place.

Empty Glass, Chinese Eyes and White City are all among my favorite records. After that, it's hit and miss for me. The music-only Psychoderelict is a good listen, though. I saw that tour back to back nights in Berkeley-- I thought it was fantastic. Eddie Vedder was five seats away from me on night 2 bootlegging the show for himself-- he knew every word to every song. Pete did "Sleeping Dog," and he sang along loud enough to hear. Super cool moment.

And thank goodness Townshend has found time to reissue his catalog. :)

Me three, I am lucky enough to have some cool promo's from Pete over the years.

I will be very interested in how the reissues will be formulated.

Also loved Pete's Rough Mix album. Wasn't that recently remastered and re-issued? Charlie Watts played drums on 2 of the songs.

It must be close to 10 years now that all of his albums were rereleased with bonus tracks. There were Japanese reissues and American. There were some differences between the two and the Americans were far superior.

Apparently Rough Mix came out as a surround Dualdisc back then so I must have it around here somewhere.
