Tonight I get to see Guthrie at a local music store called The Music Zoo (a high end dealer). Its billed as a clinic so we should get to see Guthrie perform and show off his new Charvel signature guitar. I'm bringing my CD copies of his album Erotic Cakes and the latest Aristrocrats live CD for him to sign.
Hope to take a pic too.

Try to get a photo of him with a guitar John!

He's on my list and his website has no contact info.

I've met him 3 or 4 times when he was in Asia and he's so nice and a freak on guitar!

It was over 2 hours of fun with the first hour a Guitar World interview about the Charvel guitar and other questions about Guthrie's rig. Then the second hour was Guthrie taking questions from the crowd (over 200 people) and a few songs by him like "Waves" and "Asteroid".

Then a meet n greet with Guthrie signing people's guitars and others stuff. I had 2 CDs signed including his solo album Erotic Cakes.

A very nice event and venue. I'm very impressed by the Music Zoo, they even had valet parking.

Sounds like a cool night, John. And I'll be picking up that GW. Nice to see a Randy-era transcription that's not "Crazy Train", "Mr. Crowley" or "Flying High Again".

That guitar that Guthrie used at the show really is something else in his hands. Because of his touring schedule and the fact he can't bring a lot of guitars on the smaller tours he does, he needed a guitar that can play everything from hard rock to jazz rock and he feels this one is a trick of all trades.
And it does sound like that in his hands as he switches between pickups.
He mentioned it survived a trip to Indonesia and the current trip from warm California to the freeze that is Long Island. It was a test for the guitar which it passed as he didn't need to adjust the truss rod at all.

Wierd to stand in a room wth quite a few Govan Charvels with all the admirers and know I own one.
I haven't had real time to explore what it can do and I need to send it over to my guitar tech to make sure it's up to snuff.

The wall of Guthrie Charvels. Everyone wanted to touch them and the Music Zoo let them.

Want to talk complete crazy? Yesterday I bought 2 Guthrie Govan guitar picks for $70 from his pick maker Red Bear. For one week only that company was gonna make the picks for the public due to Guthrie being on Guitar World magazine's cover and the buzz from the Aristrocrats CD/DVDA release.

So I couldn't resist.

Guthrie was asked why doesn't he throw picks out to the audience and he said they are damn expensive as they are handmade tortoise shell. Let's hope they last awhile and I will keep them with my Govan guitar.

Didn't know they were doing that - I'll have to check that out. I have a Red Bear pick that I bought used off a friend from the PRS board. With my stubby fingers, I have to be somewhat careful about size (I can't use Dunlop Jazz IIIs because they're too small, but the Jazz III XLs are just about perfect).

Anyway, the Red Bears are pretty amazing. I wasn't sure I believed the hype, but they're so smooth coming off the strings it's almost like they're lubricated. Expensive yes, but they also don't wear like normal picks (V-Picks are the same way, although not as expensive). I'm anxious to hear what you think, but I think you'll be impressed.

Shipping on the picks is real quick, expected Monday. Shipping cost $3.50 for first class Mail on picks that could fit in a small envelope for under a buck. :)

They may be sold out - I can't find a link on the page.

They only allowed 2 per person. They sold whatever they made in the past week.

Reminds me of why I never got a second Red Bear - every time I've gone to their site, they have no picks for sale. I love the one I have, but it's like CDs in b&m stores - I can't buy what you don't have to sell me.

That's why I bought two. I may never get another chance.

Despite the tracking saying delivery on around March 9, they didn't arrive today. :(

Sorry, John - I meant to tell you. I ran by the house today just as the mail came. I didn't want your picks to get lost, so I brought them home with me.

Well, dark gold - they're kind of brownish.

Surprisingly, they don't hold up to pick scrapes like I thought they would...
