Wow, DC is letting Reynolds play a Marvel hero as well? I know he was Deadpool first, but wowsers... between these and Blade III, this guy is in more funnybook movies than you can shake a stick at.

It's the alliterative name that makes him so appropriate for superhero stuff.

The only reason I'd see it is because I like Ryan Reynolds. It's pretty cool he's been in so many Super-Hero movies.

Chris Evans has him beat.

Marvel - Johnny Storm and Steve Rogers
DC - Jake Jensen (the Losers)
Oni - Lucas Lee (Scott Pilgrim)

Brandon Routh is getting up there, too, having played Superman, Todd Ingram (Scott Pilgrim), and Dylan Dog.

Inside the issue (which is available for just £1.99 on your iPad), we chat with the R.I.P.D. star about the ongoing saga of the Deadpool spin-off movie, which has been mooted ever since he played Wade Wilson in X-Men: Origins - Wolverine. The film's had a script from Zombieland writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, and Tim Miller is attached to direct.

For now, here’s a snippet of what Reynolds had to say about the status of the Merc with a Mouth’s spin-off movie…

“That movie is alive and kicking, and then it’s dead as a doornail. Then it’s alive and kicking and then it’s dead… it’s like the worst relationship I’ve ever had!”

“The character knows he’s a comic-book character, he knows he’s in a film, he knows who the executives are at the studio making the movie,” Reynolds explained. “In the current iteration of the script, Deadpool is aware of the Wolverine movie. He doesn’t say anything disparaging about it but he does at one point play with the Deadpool action figure with some curiosity.”

They should greenlight it. If there's one superhero that Ryan Reynolds is perfect for, it's Deadpool.

'X-Men' Spinoff 'Deadpool' Gets Winter 2016 Release Date

On Thursday, the studio announced that the movie will hit theaters Feb. 12, 2016. Tim Miller is set to direct the film, with Ryan Reynolds long rumored to star, although no deal is set. Bets are that he will.

The beloved Marvel character Deadpool, a.k.a. Wade Wilson, is a talkative mercenary with a host of powers, including the ability to heal at a fast rate. Reynolds played Wilson in X-Men Origins: Wolverine, while Scott Adkins played the character of Deadpool after Wilson had transformed.

News of Deadpool's release comes weeks after test footage of the project leaked briefly online. The sequence, featuring Reynolds, was shot several years ago, but nevertheless sparked intense conversation on social media.

In an recent interview, Reynolds commented on the leak, suggested it helped move the process along. "The movie has been in a state of limbo for a while. There was such an overpowering reaction to the footage, you sort of feel like, 'Oh, so we weren't crazy for our reasons for loving this character, for loving this role.' It's interesting to see the power of the Internet. It's awe-inspiring, actually," the actor told the Niagara Falls Review. "And it's neat that Twitter and Facebook and Instagram can move mountains when used in the right way."

Reynolds, whose turn as the superhero Green Lantern failed, has been linked to a potential Deadpool solo movie for years, even before he debuted as the character in 2009's X-Men Origins: Wolverine. His interest in the property dates back to 2003.

Days of Future Past has given them the opportunity to reboot the character and tie it in to the X-Universe they're attempting to build, so this makes some sense.

Bonus: Another reason for DC to go with a different Green Lantern in the JLA movies.

Anybody know of a Deadpool book (or run) that's somewhat all-ages?

I wonder if they feel dumb for ever putting on the brakes? The Fox "shared universe" is clearly the way to go.

Morena Baccarin Nabs Female Lead in 'Deadpool' (Exclusive)

Homeland star Morena Baccarin has nabbed the female lead in Deadpool, Fox's action movie based on the Marvel character.

Tim Miller is directing the action-adventure project, which stars Ryan Reynolds as an assassin who undergoes a procedure to cure his cancer that ends up leaving him twisted and scarred but also imbued with superpowers.

T.J. Miller and Gina Carano are already attached to the project, which is eyeing a March shoot and is slated for an early 2016 release.

Baccarin was one of a handful of actresses shortlisted for the role of Reynolds' character's love interest. The character grapples with falling for a man with a hideously scarred face.

The film is based on a script by Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick. Simon Kinberg is producing with Lauren Shuler Donner.

She was great in Homeland.

Except for showing herself topless multiple times, which I thought was inappropriate.
