[2015-03-17] Jefferson Airplane "Bark" expanded remaster (Iconoclassic)

Description
After the release of solo projects the Airplane reconvened for their sixth studio album. The initial sessions in 1970 were aborted and Marty Balin made the decision to leave the group. The album sessions began anew in early 1971 after Grace Slick had given birth to her first child.

The group had replaced Spencer Dryden on drums with Joey Covington and was augmented by Papa John Creach on violin on several tracks. Both musicians had worked with Jorma Kaukonen and Jack Casady in Hot Tuna during the Airplane's hiatus. The album opens with another Paul Kantner anthem, When the Earth Moves Again and continues on with stellar contributions from Jorma, Grace Slick and Joey Covington.

This expanded edition features selections from the 1971 album sessions and an extended jam on Jorma's, Feel So Good. The artwork features a recreation of the stunning original album graphics. The first release on the Airplane's then new Grunt label was one of their best selling albums and nearly cracked the Top 10 upon initial release. The new mastering, by Vic Anesini, was derived directly from the original master reels and proudly sits alongside Iconoclassic's expanded Thirty Seconds Over Winterland release.

The mid 90's JA remaster series sounds wonderful (some of the best sounding non audiophile priced cd's ever imo), so bonus trax (or lack of) will be my decider.

Didn't IC also do 30 Seconds Over Winterland? Did anyone ever get a chance to compare that to the Japan Mini-LP sleeve (which was very good; Winterland wasn't in the mid 90's batch; it was earlier so the Japan edition was a big upgrade)?

I just looked; 3 names I'm not familiar with did the mid 90's reissues I'm so enamored of: Bill Lacey, Mike Hartry & Bob Irwin. (Irwin did some alone; the other 2 did some as a duo)

One of these days I need to see if i have those bonus tracks anywhere (I'll be surprised if I don't) as I'm reasonably happy with my Japan SHM cd.

The 2 bonus tracks are nothing special (I think the expanded Feel So Good was on the Loves You box set & a Mono Pretty As You feel holds little interest for me); so I'm probably going to pass as the sound on the mid 90's RCA was excellent.

I am getting more & more interested in the bonus tracks on Winterland; I need to spend (alot of) time & see if I already have them anywhere.
