Rumer's next album will collect the B-sides, bonus tracks, and singles from her British releases to date. This is excellent news for Rumer's American audience because her albums have been released here only after 3-4 month delays. Special editions, singles, and EPs are only available here as expensive imports. The following is the text of Rumer's recent posts to her FaceBook page.
January 8 at 5:04am I'm compiling a B sides and Rarities Cd for all those extra songs that I've recorded that don't appear on the standard album versions of Seasons, Boys and Into Colour... What is your favourite b side or rarity that I have recorded? ( I can't get any of the Daryls House music licensed unfortunately)
January 21 at 2:04pm Working on the B sides compilation Cd artwork with the lovely Rhiannon at Warner. Cover is looking really nice!
A fellow fan picked this up at Rumer's recent show and posted the track list on Facebook:
1. Arthur's Theme (Best That You Can Do) 2. Dangerous (Bossa Nova version) 3. Sailing 4. Hasbrook Heights (with Dionne Warwick) 5. Come Saturday Morning 6. It Might Be You (Theme from "Tootsie") 7. Moon River (Live on BBC Radio 2) 8. Separate Lives (with Stephen Bishop) 9. The Warmth of the Sun 10. Alfie 11. Long Long Day 12. Soul Rebel 13. Here Comes The Sun 14. Marie 15. Frederick Douglass 16. That's All (with Michael Feinstein) 17. I Believe In You (Theme from "Johnny English Reborn")
The only disappointment was the exclusion of "Welcome Back" which was a free download from her website a few years ago. Other than that, this is an awesome selection. (There is still enough good stuff left for a second volume though! LOL!) I love that she included the bonus tracks from both the Japanese ("Sailing" and "Hasbrook Heights") and US ("Frederick Douglass") versions of her current album, Into Colour, to save the more diehard fans from having to purchase all three versions just for a few extra songs. Very fan-oriented. Another reason to love her.

Sigh...yes, except that some of her "more diehard fans" immediately purchased the UK import when it was released, and then re-purchased it when the Japanese version with the two bonus cuts was announced as well. I was actually unaware there was an additional track on the US release. Yes tho, too bad "Welcome Back "isn't included, but I'm glad the Bossa Nova version of "Dangerous" is. I actually prefer it to the techno-80s version on the last album.
This is available from Rumer's Night Owl label for $16.87. I haven't set up an account there so I'm not sure if they charge tax or what shipping costs are.

Ow! I just visited the link and added this and a second Rumer-related CD to my cart. The 2 CDs are under $17 each but total shipping to the U.S. is $18.33...

Yikes, she must have used the same webstore consultant as Jimmy Page. Hopefully this will get a general release.
Yes, this seems ridiculous. Rumer must not currently have a label in the U.S.? First no physical CD for her new Into Colours album and now this shipping debacle of the B Sides and Rarities. It's a shame, since she is very talented. I guess her last 2 CDs must not have sold that well here. Also, I thought she now lives in Arkansas, so you would think she might have someone selling her CDs from there?
I wrote to an address listed in her Facebook comments if one wanted a more detailed response. I complained about the high shipping costs and also asked if this Rarities disc might be released through regular outlets. The reply I received: "We will look into you concerns. I understand what you are saying regarding postage and will see if anything can be done. As of now Night Owl plugs into a fulfilment service that calculates the postage automatically at their end. At present there are no plans to release the special CD anywhere other than at shows or on this website."
And, I have to admit, their cost might not be all that outrageous. The US Postal Service raised their international rates not that long ago. I thought one CD in a padded mailer would be around $6 which is about what it used to be. Purely to satisfy my curiosity, I just put a CD in a padded mailer and took it to my post office and asked them what it would be to the UK and I was shocked: over $9.50, which doesn't include the cost of the mailer. So unfortunately, I have to say $12.54 isn't all that far above the actual cost.
Interesting info about overseas shipping costs. I wonder how Amazon Marketplace sellers in the UK can sell items with Amazon's standard $3.99 shipping cost without losing money.
If Rumer is still selling this CD on her current tour, which I believe is the case, I might have to go to her show in NYC just to buy a copy. I wonder if I could get in to buy a CD without getting a ticket.
From Rumer's Facebook page: Hi there, Some of you have written in to say that the postage seems to be too much on the B Sides CD delivery on Night Owl. Just to let you know we have been looking into it, and hopefully we will be able to absorb more of the delivery costs at our end. This will mean we should be able to refund you the packing costs. It is not that much but I hope that it will help. Those of you who have made a purchase will get an email with information soon x
That's pretty awesome of her to actually listen to the fans and be looking into a solution instead of responding the way many others would, like "We have no control over what the company handling the actual sales for us charges..." etc. .I'll hold off purchasing to see if they lower it a bit.
