Product Description:
TOTO XIV is the band's first album of new material since 2006's Falling In Between. However, the band personally considers the new album to be the true follow-up to TOTO IV, which made the band global superstars. The album is a realized vision three plus decades in the making, exhibiting world-class musicianship, masterful arrangements, topical lyrical commentary, and melodies that the collective genius of Lukather, Paich, Porcaro, Williams and their assembled band-mates bring to life. The band's current line-up includes original members Steve Lukather, David Paich and Steve Porcaro and sees the return to the fold of original bass player, David Hungate. Joseph Williams (singer on The Seventh One and Fahrenheit) returns to handle lead vocals, while Keith Carlock (Steely Dan, Sting) now sits behind the drumkit.

Track Listing:

On a related note, stay tuned for a series on the Toto discography at my blog, beginning sometime in the next couple of days. I'll probably wrap it up before the new album is released, but maybe I'll add a follow-up post in April after I've spent some time with "XIV."

They were as balls-out as ever when I saw them in September and I'd imagine some Hard Rock and Prog are on this new album.

Their last album Falling In Between was awesome in 2006. Title song sounded like Dream Theater!

So, that means the band's been dicking around for the past third of a century? Why do they have to say things like that?

I couldn't agree more, Pete. I know it's never been cool to like Toto but the fact is that they still put out amazing records, possibly better than their early classics, all these years into their career. Falling In Between was a monster. I have high hopes for the new one.

That part of the description seemed unnecessary...and ridiculous...but obviously the record label needs to do whatever they can to tie the new release to their best-selling album. I can't imagine the band really thinks there's a connection between the two.

I can hardly wait for this one. Toto always puts out terrific albums. Falling In Between was wonderful and didn't seem like a swan song. I hope Toto XIV isn't one either!

I'm in on this. I recently completed filling in my Toto discography with the Japanese CD's. Naturally, the discs sound killer.

All 3 of the Rock Candy remasters were awesome last year-very nicely done.

Supposedly the Toto IV remaster by Culture Factory isn't destroyed like they typically do sonically, but I can't bite just yet.

And yes, this new album should be killer.

Get the IV Japan disc. The sound is killer. A bit louder than the original CD, but not overly.

From radio.com:

By Marissa G. Muller

Toto, the California band best known for rock epic “Africa” and the preceding “Hold the Line,” is making their return this March with a new studio album, self-referentially titled TOTO XIV.

It will be somewhat of a reunited affair. Since their last album, 2006’s Falling In Between, the band has reunited with vocalist Joseph Williams and founding member Steve Pocaro, and they’ll be joined by original bassist David Hungate—who hasn’t been with them for 30 years—when they tour behind their new album this year.

“This is opposite of going through the motions,” Porcaro said in a video announcement of the album. “We are treating this like it is Toto V, our follow-up to Toto IV. We just want to be the best version of ourselves that we can be. Be true to ourselves and make the best music we can. Entertain people which is what we were put on this Earth for.”

While their last album was released to mixed reviews, the band is promising that they’re giving it their all this time around. “I think this is gonna surprise people, because it’s not a bunch of old guys phoning it in,” guitarist Steve Lukather said in an interview with Ultimate Classic Rock last year. “We’re actually really digging deep, and it’s a complete huge, massive production. If you like what we do, you’re gonna love this record. I mean, we’re not going EDM or having rappers come in or doing duets of our old songs. It’s just fresh new music doing what we do. We’re not trying to be anything that we’re not, we’re just trying to be the best version of it and it’s powerful, it’s big. Huge vocals, massive harmonies, s— you just don’t hear anymore. Nobody does five-part harmonies anymore—not in rock ‘n’ roll.”

Toto XIV is out March 24. Check out the album’s tracklist below.

Toto XIV Track Listing

Running Out of Time
Burn
Holy War
21st Century
Orphan
Unknown Soldier (for Jeffrey)
The Little Things
Chinatown
All The Tears That
Fortune
Great Expectations

Veteran US rockers Toto have released a promo for their track Orphan.

It’s lifted from their upcoming album XIV which launches on March 23 via Frontiers. View it below.

And although it will be their first studio outing since 2006’s Falling In Between, keyboardist Steve Porcaro said the band are looking on the new material as the follow up to 1982’s Toto IV.

He said: "This is opposite of going through the motions. We are treating this like it is Toto V. We just want to be the best version of ourselves that we can be. Be true to ourselves and make the best music we can. Entertain people which is what we were put on this Earth for."

The album is currently available to pre-order form iTunes and Amazon. The deluxe edition comes bundled with a bonus DVD containing a making-of documentary and a booklet featuring interviews and exclusive pictures.

They’ll head out on a European tour kicking off in Glasgow on May 21, while a US tour with Yes in August has been hinted at.

The cover is awesome and so is the song. I'm in!

By the way, if you need to update your Toto Catlg, get the recent Rock Candy reissues. They kick ass!

I like the new song, but what a crap video. It's just a bunch of cobbled together footage. Hopefully they'll get a little more backing than this going forward.

Frontiers is a great label but dumping money on a music video by Toto would make no sense.

They're in good hands and have been with the label since 2005.

No worries.

Dig the song. Don't mind the video either. No label is gonna spend big bucks on a video for an aged rock group these days.
