Surprised I haven't seen any mention of these, as I know there are several Aristocrats fans on the board. The Aristocrats recently released two new live sets: Culture Clash Live (cd/dvd), and Secret Show: Live In Osaka - a 2cd "official bootleg". Culture Clash Live is available through Amazon, but Secret Show... seems to only be available through the band's website.

Culture Clash Live
Quote:
The rock/fusion power trio The Aristocrats featuring Guthrie Govan on guitar, Bryan Beller on bass, and Marco Minnemann on drums will release the live CD/DVD Culture Clash Live, on January 20, 2015. Captured in six different locations in five countries on three different continents during the band s 100+ show Culture Clash World Tour, it showcases The Aristocrats in full flight: Virtuosic, melodic, spontaneous, outrageous, and still having more fun than any group of world touring muzos has any right to have. Every time we play a song live, it seems to evolve slightly, says Govan. However hard we might try to capture definitive versions in the studio, the true nature of any given composition inevitably reveals itself during the subsequent touring process, mutating incrementally from one night to the next as we do our best to maintain the element of spontaneity and encourage the occurrence of little musical accidents. While the music evolved and the audiences made each show unforgettable, the live recording process was anything but smooth. The panoply of technical pitfalls that ensued reached a certain comic level of absurdity, Beller remembers. The crowds were unremittingly awesome, only to be rivaled in ferocity by the gremlins in each location. So the project became a Frank Zappa-style live compilation by necessity, which gave it a rollicking international flavor a culture clash after all. Drummer Marco Minnemann put it all in perspective. I remembered sitting in a van on our ride to one of our shows, listening to one of the songs which I usually avoid, because it s sort of like looking in the mirror trying to fix your hair or something saying out loud, Hey, we re actually not that bad! You sometimes just gotta let go and enjoy the real-time moments without questioning them. CD Features Five tracks from Whittier, CA (CalProg) One track from Manchester, UK One track from Bangkok, THAILAND One track from Zoetermeer, HOLLAND DVD Features (main movie runtime 1hr 40mins) Additional unique tracks from Tokyo, JAPAN;Bangkok, THAILAND; Mexico City, MEXICO Bonus features: Culture Clash CD demos, additional 20-cam Marco Minnemann drum solo, behind the scenes video.

Got my autographed copies 2 weeks ago and I also funded this release through a Kickstater campaign the band set up a few months ago. The Aristocrats are awesome! Saw them live in NYC a summer ago.

I saw them in a small packed club in 2013. After reading several posts about them here on IMWAN, I just happened to check their tour schedule and saw that they would be performing here. After the show, the guys hung out and talked to the fans. I purchased their cd's & their dvd and got them signed and had my picture made with the band. Two weeks later, I saw Marco & Brian with Joe Satriani in a considerably larger venue. Had it not been for the posts here on IMWAN, the Aristocrats would have flown beneath my radar. and I would have missed a great show.

Correction: Bryan, not "Brian". Just read that he & Marco will again be part of Satriani's touring band for his upcoming World tour.

Yep, I've been yelling loud and clear about these guys (even mentioned them to Jimbo last night). Glad someone's listening. :D :yay:

I got my copies of Culture Clash Live! and Secret Show: Live In Osaka (signed) a week or so ago, and they are great!!

The performances are phenomenal, as good as I remembered them being in person. And it's fun to hear again the stories behind the songs "Ohhhh Noooo" and "Gaping Head Wound" on the CCL DVD, and on the Osaka CD (although the mikes are very hard to hear on that disc, you have to crank it up to hear Guthrie speak, and then turn the volume back down when the song starts).

The Aristocrats were, hands-down, the best live show that I saw in 2013. I caught them in a small club where my friend's band sometimes performs, and was blown away. I even got to talk to the band before the show. Bryan was extremely nice to us, until I mentioned Alan's name, when he suddenly walked away and started muttering under his breath :ohno:

Also saw them in a small NYC club and spoke to Guthrie after the show about his upcoming Charvel guitar that he was also playing that evening (and working the kinks out). Looking forward to seeing him a week from this Monday here on LI.
