Description
After making major contributions to the first two albums by the Steve Miller Band, Boz Scaggs left for a solo career. He signed to Atlantic Records and recorded this album at Muscle Shoals in 1969, with Duane Allman on stunning form on guitar, slide and dobro, plus the Muscle Shoals rhythm section and the Memphis Horns.

Originally mixed by Stax Records' engineer Terry Manning, Boz Scaggs was well reviewed but sold slowly. The record was given a second chance in 1977, when it was remixed by Tom Perry and reissued in the wake of Scaggs' breakthrough success. This Edsel release brings together both mixes together for the first time in one package. The record remains a timeless snapshot of man finally in control of his destiny, and a wonderful testament to Scaggs' unique vocal style and R&B heritage.

For this 2015 unique pairing, notewriter Paul Myers managed to secure an exclusive interview with the album’s producer (and founder of Rolling Stone magazine) Jann Wenner. The booklet also features the lyrics.

Featuring Boz Scaggs, with a special guest appearance by Boz Scaggs.

Speaking of, has anyone yet laid eyes on the purported 2015 CD release of his first album? The LP that got limited release in Denmark or such in the late 1960s and is highly sought after by collectors? I ordered a copy of the CD from a Hong Kong amazon 3rd party seller after cancelling my amazon order (which received one of those famous delayed shipment notices) but the CD has yet to appear so I still don't know if it was released and/or is at all legitimate...

Todd,

It was a mini-LP sleeve pressing on Vivid Sound, which is a legitimate Japanese reissue label, but it seems to have either been cancelled or recalled with only a few copies having found their way to indie dealers. It's still listed at CDJapan, but apparently orders keep getting delayed there too.

Amazon USA currently shows one third party seller in Japan claiming to have it in stock:

Thanks, Linda. Mine has allegedly been shipped and could arrive from HK anywhere from 1/23 to 2/13. Although I have a needledrop of someone's LP, this one's been on my want list for a long time so I'm hopeful it'll actually turn up, especially given the release history of this CD version you just related.

Hopefully my last digression on this thread that was about a different release, but my mini LP version of the 1st Boz album from 1965 FINALLY arrived in today's mail. 31 minutes and pretty nice packaging, including a lyrics sheet and replication of the LPs front and back cover art. Finally my Boz collection is complete. :)
