The delay has been all about properly paying all the musicians fees involved so that the movie can be exhibited with all the original music. I was proudly a part of the Kickstarter effort to get this done.

As you should be proud. Having seen the movie, I can say they spent your money well.

I saw this Friday night and it was wonderful. I could have watched six hours of interviews. Great stories and anecdotes. Amazing talent. And it has a lot of heart.
I was a Kickstarter contributor too and I look forward to getting my copy of the DVD.

Has anyone here seen the version that made the rounds a few years ago along with the version in theaters? If so, are they the same. Was the delay only due to song rights, or was there further tweaking to the movie?

I didn't see the original.......but the very beginning of the credits mentioned people who passed after the documentary was made (i.e. Earl Palmer). I'm not sure if that meant passed away after the movie was made.....or passed away during the delay in the current release.

I saw this a couple weeks ago. Another documentary just made for ICErs. Has a charming homemade feel to it. I had no idea this crew played on so many hits of the 60s and early 70s. I mean, everybody knows about the Monkees, but the Beach Boys and the Byrds handing over their instruments on certain recordings?
Got a chuckle out of Cher repeatedly referring to "Philip" when talking about Phil Spector. Clearly filmed before he went to jail.

It's also available streaming on Verizon FIOS (for those who want to avoid the movie theater experience) but it looks like something that will be on VH1 pretty soon.

The Tom Dowd movie ""Tom Dowd and the Language of Music"" was fantastic. One of the best music docs I ever saw. The man was a genius."Father Dowd" as Lynyrd Skynyrd loving called him.
