Alex Turner calls Josh Homme's contribution to new Arctic Monkeys album 'really exciting'
Arctic Monkeys frontman Alex Turner has said that Queens Of The Stone Age frontman Josh Homme's contribution to his band's new album 'AM' is "really exciting".
Produced by James Ford and Ross Orton, the new Arctic Monkeys LP features appearances from Homme plus former The Coral member Bill Ryder-Jones and Elvis Costello's drummer Pete Thomas.
Speaking about Homme's contribution to 'AM' with Zane Lowe on BBC Radio 1 earlier this evening (June 24), Turner said: "The Josh thing was very much a case of one of us returning a back scratch to the other… he came down and sort of got us out of a little rut. It's just fun, it's friends, extended family now – [they] came round, had a fun night. His contribution to our record is really exciting, it's probably my favourite. The 30 seconds that he's in there is just, I dunno, it's like something that I've never heard before. Not to blow my own trumpet or anything, but you know what I’m saying."
Turner also explained that he stole the name of his band's new album 'AM' from The Velvet Underground. "I actually stole it from the Velvet Underground, I'll just confess that now and get it out of the way. The 'VU' record, obviously," he said. Speaking further about the album title with Lowe, Turner joked: "Did we cop out? Yeah!" He added: "Summat about it feels like this record is exactly where we should be right now. So it felt right to just initial it."
He continued of the album's direction: "The record sort of started with 'R U Mine?' really. [We] discovered something through the recording of that tune that we thought was worth exploring. 'Do I Wanna Know' was the first thing we found along that road."

Arctic Monkeys have become the first indie-released act to earn five consecutive Number One albums on the UK album charts after their new effort, AM, debuted at the top of the charts.
AM tops the UK Album Charts after selling over 157,000 copies during its first week of release. The band is also expected to make a Top 10 chart debut in the U.S.
AM is also a finalist for the prestigious 2013 Mercury Prize which is awarded to one outstanding British album each year. The band received the award in 2006 for their debut "Whatever People Say I Am, That's What I'm Not." This year's award will be announced in London on October 30th.
On this side of the pond, the band kicked off their North American tour of intimate venues on Monday night with a sold out show at New York City's famed Webster Hall.
The tour is set to run for the next three and half weeks and will hit major markets across the U.S. before wrapping up on October 11th at the Austin City Limits Festival in Austin, TX.

freely handed out
Reminds me I just added this to my library on Google Play. I'll give it a listen when I get done with the Babyshambles new one, also from last year. I'm overwhelmed with music right now and it's awesome.
