Casting about for a new TV series to watch. This looks interesting. It hasn't been shown over here (I don't think) and the DVD sets are cheap as chips. Worth it?

The resounding silence would suggest no. Have you watched any of the Netflix originals, if they have them over there? They're all quite good. Almost BBC quality at times.

Southland the American TV series about police that began on NBC and then ran a few years on TNT?

if that's the one, the i think it's definitely worth it. i definitely like my police drama more realistic as opposed to say... "Chicago P.D.". so, if that's your thing you'll love this show.

Highly recommend the police series Southland if thats your cup of tea. Speaking as a patrol officer of 28 years (and yes thats 28 years on the street, never had a desk job), it is the most realistic dramatic series since Adam-12 of the 60s.
Obviously a tv drama has to spice things up (in real life patrol is 99% boredom followed by 1% of terror) but the feel of the show (two guys one a veteran, the other a raw rookie) is pretty close to how it feels to be in a patrol car every day in a major US city.

I had somehow missed seeing that there had been any replies to me in this thread! That is a real recommendation there - I'll have to give this a look now. Cheers!
