Just picked this up because I love this type of format and the art seemed interesting.

From DC's solicitation:

Quote:
In the 1960s, at the height of the Batman TV series’ popularity, a shonen manga magazine in Japan serialized fifty-three chapters of original comics starring The Dark Knight, all written and illustrated by Managaka Jiro Kuwata. Now, DC Entertainment is proud to publish the complete Batman Manga adventures in English for the first time in three painstakingly restored volumes. The adventure begins when the Dynamic Duo faces the insidious threat of Lord Death Man!

Any read it?

I picked up the first volume but haven't read any yet. The art looks simple and charming.

Amazing how something looks both iconic and totally foreign at once, eh?

Didn't Morrison bring back Lord Death Man?

There's an episode of Batman: The Brave and the Bold that references this. It's interesting.

Yep, it is interesting though the actions scenes are not as fluid and easy to follow (a criticism I have with almost every manga book I've read). But I love his Batman and the 66 Batmobile.

I need to watch that. I never really watched the show and I hear good things. Apparently there was a good Captain Marvel one too.

Yup. And he named the Batman of Japan "Jiro" as an homage to the writer/artist of the manga.

I just finished it this week. It doesn't seem like anything I would like, but it's easily up there with Batman: The Animated Series and Justice League Unlimited. Even with some of the newer versions of some characters (Blue Beetle, Firestorm) it's basically a love letter to Silver Age DC comics.

Sounds like it's right up my alley

Looks like Mike Alreds's drawing style.

Yeah, for all the very cool line effects they bring to the table for action scenes, the characters are often very stiff and robotic looking in the fights. (That said, I haven't read a ton of manga, just going off the little I've seen.)

The figures are clear in this book, but the fluidity is not there. It's still fun to read a lighthearted Batman.
