I just don't get this song. Low is probably my favorite Bowie album, but I think this is the weakest song on it.

No accounting for taste, I guess.

I was always surprised why Cheap Trick never really took off with the public. Even among my friends in college at that time, I was the only real Cheap Trick fan.

"Surrender" is a great pop song.

There are about a half dozen songs from Poi Dog Pondering that come to mind...never understood how their profile never rose at a national level....they owned Chicago throughout much of the 90s.

I agree about Cheap Trick, they had really catchy stuff, it was intelligent, funny...
I never could understand why they weren't much bigger than they became, either.

 That was number 1 in the UK! Cultural differences!

I'm sure that Feargal was at least top ten here, if not number one.

Aye, bet Angry Anderson's 'Suddenly (Theme to Scott and Charlene's wedding)' didn't get into the US Top 10 either. :)

I became fascinated with the differences between the UK and US pop charts when a friend brought me the book of "British Hit Singles" as a souvenir of his trip to London. Many big UK hits of the 80s were well-known to US new wave fans, even if they never graced our charts. The 70s were a different story, many acts didn't translate across the pond, but I had a lot of fun, after the fact, discovering the joys of Showaddywaddy and the Darts--not to mention "Mouldy Old Dough" by Lieutenant Pigeon!

On the other hand, thank heavens for those cultural differences when it comes to stuff like "Teletubbies Say Eh-Oh!" (#1 UK hit in '97).
