In a previous thread I mistakenly wrote that David Crosby and Graham Nash's album "Wind on the Water" was stuck in "reissue purgatory", referring to those shoddy reissues without the original cover. Well, there was a definitive MCA remaster released in 2000 with the original cover and with liner notes. It's still available brand-new from Amazon.com. I only knew the last song on the album, "To the Last Whale... Wind on the Water", but the rest of the album is just as strong and complex. No really catchy tunes on the album, but if you like singer-songwriter albums, this one is a worthy addition to your CSNY collection. Crosby and Nash harmonize beautifully, I don't miss the voice of Stills at all on this album.

Renny,

On the second listen I'd say four catchy tunes. The "Wind on the Water" album is a grower, a very complex piece of work. To me a catchy tune is one you can hum and remember after one listen, but that is not the only yardstick of excellence.

I agree with Renny - I think Wind is the best of the Crosby & Nash studio albums.

It's a fine album indeed, but I still like the first three by CSN better. I haven't heard the other Crosby - Nash albums yet.

This is a great album, and the MCA remastered version is excellent, I think. It's one of the first albums I'd suggest for CS&N fans who want to start checking out solo and duo albums.

The first Crosby and Nash album, Graham Nash/David Crosby, is probably just as good (IMO), and has never been released on CD in the U.S., to my knowledge. I've got an import version, which is OK (I think it's still available on Amazon at a pretty decent price), but I'd really like to see a domestic version done up right.

That's correct.

Personally i like it even better than WOTW. I think it has only come out in Germany as part of their short-lived Atlantic Records Anniversary digipak (as many of you cringe in horror....) series. Japan may have done a jewel case release of it long ago, but i don't know that for sure either way.
I think that Page 43 is one of Crosby's finest songs, ever. But it's worth it just to hear "Immigration Man", which i think was a moderate radio hit at the time.

Some decent and negelcted titles got through in that series aside from this, most notably "More Sweet Soul Music" by Arthur Conley, which has never been released elsewhere on cd (yet, anyways).

The Crosby & Nash 1st album is still available in the German series. My business has 2 copies in stock at this time.

I may never forgive the responsible parties for not including "The Wall Song" from Graham Nash/David Crosby on the Crosby box set, Voyage. The box does include a beautiful demo version of "Games," though.

All of Crosby's contributions to that album are pretty great, as are most of Graham's, especially "Immigration Man" and "Southbound Train." The boys sure had it goin' on at the time.

I had both the Japanese and German versions of Graham Nash/David Crosby (the first Crosby/Nash album) for a time, and both were digipaks (i.e, essentially identical packages).

from 1969 to 1973 those four men made some of the best rock and roll ever. an unbeilievable span of music.

they should have been the "american" beatles. ( i know nash is british and young canadian, but you all know what i mean), but let egos and drugs get in the way.

one can only imagine what could have been.

They were the "American" Beatles for a while. Weren't they the best-selling American (and British and Canadian) band between 1969 and 1973?

I agree - 1969-73 was a golden age for all 4 of them.

Stephen's Manassas album (the first one) is another great and underrated record from that era. It's two disks (two LPs, anyway) with virtually no dead weight and plenty of highlights. And, of course, let's not even get started about the material Neil Young was putting out in this time frame.
