Description
The fourth solo album from prolific songwriter, four-time Grammy-nominated artist, multi-instrumentalist and producer, Steven Wilson. Hand. Cannot Erase. is a dynamic 11-song conceptual set, bringing together diverse aspects of his expansive sonic history. Recorded in September 2014 at AIR Studios London, Hand. Cannot. Erase. features the guitar-driven power, infectious melodies, and progressive sensibility of Wilson s sprawling body of work.

Wilson describes the collection as inspired by a news story, of a woman who died in her apartment and went undiscovered for three years. The basic concept of the record it's about a woman growing up, who goes to live in the city, very isolated, and she disappears one day and no one notices. Now, your initial reaction when you hear a story like that is, 'Ah, little old bag lady that no one notices; no one cares about.' But she was young; she was popular; she was attractive; she had many friends; she had family, but for whatever reason, nobody missed her for three years.; The dramatic theme of Hand. Cannot. Erase. is punctuated with moments of rhythmic urgency, somber introspection, and soaring beauty.

Blu-Ray in hi resolution stereo & 5.1 audio (96/24 5.1 LPCM & DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1). Also includes download codes for MP3 and FLAC versions of the songs.

Artwork by long time Porcupine Tree and Steven Wilson artist and designer, Carl Glover (in conjunction with images from Hajo Mueller and Lasse Hoile)

Alongside the album this edition also features seven additional tracks including alternative & radio mixes plus the beautiful solo version of Routine with Ninet Tayeb on vocals. The Lasse Hoile Studio Documentary & studio sessions photo gallery complete the Blu-ray.

Beautiful cover and I'm sure another sonic masterpiece. :)
Steven Wilson saved the 2000's for me and in this new decade continues to make great challenging music and of course his remixing projects.

John, I feel exactly the same way. Although fortunately my 2000's didn't need saving, he has continued to deliver one gem after another since I discovered him via Porcupine Tree's "Signify" in 1997. If this album is even half as good as "The Raven That Refused To Sing" I will be pleased, as that one was my favorite album of 2013 by a wide margin. Not just prog but across the board. Of course, I'm sure it will be a lot more than "half as good."

I really love the cover art. It's a real departure for him.

I've never heard an album from SW or PT that I didn't like.

And I wonder if this will come out in different formats like the previous release. Poor me buys them all.

POOR you? Haha.

I'm sure this will be in multiple formats, since that's been his M.O. for a while now. I'll be happy with a CD and Blu-ray with surround sound mix.

I usually get the mega box if available. Wilson's are usually top notch.

Would love to get those sets but I have to be choosy when it comes to my box set spending, and I usually opt for the ones that offer additional music/video/5.1 content as opposed to just incredible packaging. Some of us don't live at the corner of Croesus and Mammon, Mr. Burns. :D

i'm a long-time lover of the PT catalog,
but i quite disliked SW first two solo outings,
LOVED the "The Raven That Refused To SIng...,"
and thought the covers collection was mostly worthless.
i'm both intrigued and delighted with news of his next project here.

Agree on the overs collection; I'd thankfully forgotten about that.

I feel very differently than Geff & RackleNut. I love SW's first two solo albums. They're not quite as brilliant as "The Raven..." but that's a masterpiece and could end up being his definitive work. I really like the covers collection. It was nice to hear some intimate performances, and the originals are as interesting as the covers.

I enjoyed his first 2 solo albums a lot. Don't like the covers 'EPs' which I owned and sold for over 6 times more than I paid for them.
SW is very collectible.

I like everything except the covers set.

For me he has never had a clunker (the covers set really doesn't count for me as its a throwaway project). And he is really good live, not just a studio act.

Good to know, Geff. I don't understand the disappointment so many fans feel about the covers set. I think those performances are as good as they were intended to be. I especially like his version of the Alanis Morissette song.

Yep. You would think between his solo work, Porcupine Tree, Blackfield, Storm Corrosion, No Man, etc. the quality would have dipped at some point, but he continues to impress with every new release.

i've seen PT twice live, and with the exception of an overly loud sound production the 2nd time,
they were aurally-life-changing events - sonically stunning!

Agreed regarding the "life changing" aspect of PT shows. I was fortunate to see them at the 400-capacity Bottom Line in NYC in June 2001, a few years after discovering their music. They were awesome, of course. Saw them a couple of times after that, including a great show at Irving Plaza around the release of In Absentia. Haven't seen them (or SW) in recent years since I don't go to many shows anymore, but I make sure I get any live DVDs, Blu-rays or CDs to capture the experience.

Man, I miss The Bottom Line. I saw so many incredible shows there in the '80s & '90s, and in the early-'00s they were the only place that would book prog bands like The Floiwer Kings and Spock's Beard.
