Coming in to wave the Canadian flag a little bit. The Tragically Hip are probably the greatest Canadian Rock Band (as opposed to the greatest Rock Band from Canada, although they're way up there on that list, too). Their ability to combine straight ahead rock and roll songs (Little Bones, Blow at High Dough) with Canadiana (Bobcaygeon, 50 Mission Cap, Courage), and deep introspective mood pieces make them a national treasure.
For my American friends who have never tried it, this is a great place to try them out.

As I recall, I liked their music. I liked the band name even more. Theirs and Southern Culture on the Skids are two of my favorite band names. I think they both appeared around the same time.

I will second that Canadian flag waving for our American friends who are not familiar with the band. The Hip are a monstrously good. I'm not sure that "Fully Completely" is their best album, but it is a damn good one. They are are also a tremendous live act with one of the most eccentric lead singers in the history of rock music. I'm really pumped about the bonus live disc.
