From classicrockmagazine.com:

King Diamond has revealed details of his upcoming 'best of' compilation.

Dreams Of Horror will be released on November 11 in a 2CD format. Disc one features the best of his work with Roadrunner Records while the second disc features music from his time with Metal Blade Records, making it the only compilation to cover his entire career.

King Diamond is also working on a follow-up to his last album, 2007's Give Me Your Soul... Please and says he is feeling better than ever after his 2010 heart surgery.

Sacrilege that any King Diamond comp would not have "No Present For Christmas" or "Halloween", but this is quite the comp (though it seems rather short for 2 CDs).

I implore those who have not dipped into the King's lair to try this if you appreciate unbelievable guitar work and drumming along with creepy story-telling and the King's zany vocals (not everyone's cup of "tea"-get it?).

Jimbo, John, Alan-I'm talking to you.

The King is a deviled ham, now indulge him!

That was my reaction when seeing the track list. If the individual song times are accurate on Wikipedia then the first disc will run 53+ minutes and the second disc will run 55+ minutes.

I don't necessarily think that the discs of comps need to be jammed packed. Especially if they do a running order that isn't chronological and they mix things up and try to give the songs a different "perspective" by how they link them together with the other songs that surround them. But we don't have that here, this is a basic chronological by-the-numbers type comp.

That being said......

IP is on the money, No Presents for Christmas should be on here.

There should be a third track included from Abigail and you could pick any of them because there isn't a bad song on that record.

There should be a third track included from "Them," I'd suggest Tea or Twilight Symphony.

Strange that one of the two tracks from The Eye is the instrumental Insanity. Don't get me wrong, Insanity is excellent and deserves to be on here. But they probably should have added another song from The Eye with vocals. My pick would be Burn.

I'm surprised there is only one song on here from Voodoo. That's a good record and there should be another song from that one included on this comp.

The song Give Me Your Soul should definitely be on this.

And I'd have to disagree with IP on recommending this for first time listeners of the mighty King Diamond. Lots of worthy stuff on this, but I just can't see these songs having the same impact on the listener outside of the albums they were originally on. For King Diamond, the album Abigail is the way to go. Awesome, awesome record.

Joseph:
A comp like this lets non-fans or the curious hear tunes from every album. It's a good way to see how talented he is as a writer and the playing and production kept getting better and better. Who ever thought King would get a Grammy nomination?

But, yeah the track selection is off the mark a bit.

Nice to see King and Andy LaRocque did the remastering.

Abagail is the go-to album in all respects. I play it every Halloween and it is a masterpiece-a true work of art right down to the cover.

I agree with most of your ideas on the comp-at least 3 each from Abagail and Them. Good to see The Graveyard represented-an underrated album in the King's crypt.

Well, I'd give this one a shot, but if you guys are recommending Abigail, maybe I take a run at that one first.

I thought about going to see King later this month, but that would be four concerts in four days - ain't happening. I'm not Charles!

Oh, how I am so sad to be missing the King (no Philly date despite always selling out here)!

Most of the tour is sold out.

The show in LA on Halloween night should be something (and so should the audience).

Alan-get Abigail.

It is one of the Top 100 Metal albums ever made hands down and "The Black Horsemen" will give you chills-the guitar playing is outrageous.

From Blabbermouth.net:

"Dreams Of Horror", a 2xCD collection of KING DIAMOND songs, newly enhanced into ultimate editions by King Diamond and Andy La Rocque themselves, will be released by Metal Blade Records on November 11.

"Dreams Of Horror" is the only "best-of" album covering the band's entire career. King Diamond and Andy La Rocque meticulously mastered and enhanced these 23 songs into the ultimate editions, chosen by the band from both the Roadrunner and Metal Blade catalogs.

In a recent interview with Full Metal Jackie, King Diamond stated about "Dreams Of Horror": "Metal Blade got the chance, through getting some of licenses from Roadrunner — well, Roadrunner is under Warner — so they got some licenses from them to actually release some vinyl of the old Roadrunner stuff, but also to do a best-of [collection]. And that's something that's coming out, a genuine best-of that is spanning the entire KING DIAMOND career. So there is one disc that is only Roadrunner material, one disc that is Metal Blade, but it's [being] released through Metal Blade, the whole thing. And it sounds amazing."

He added: "We went back to before all the remastering that was done on our stuff and got back to the original stuff and could tweak that. And you hear things that you… If you [got into the band] later on, you could only buy certain versions of the albums these days. And they don't all sound the way I would like [them] to sound. And now we got the chance to actually select the songs ourselves, me and Andy, and we worked on them hardcore with this new gear to get them as optimal as possible. And they sound very close to how they originally sounded. You will hear things you can't hear on the versions you can buy today."

Regarding his plans for a new KING DIAMOND LP, the vocalist said: "We signed a new deal with Metal Blade for another three albums. We have done a lot of stuff lately with that in mind. We have invested a lot of the new recording budgets for the next couple of albums into making Andy La Rocque's, the guitarist's studio in Sweden, better. We got new equipment in, I got a new vocal studio here in my house. It was finished a few days before I went over to Europe recently and I actually managed to rehearse in it, which was great.

But it's Pro Tools, new speakers, it's a vocal booth from Portland, Oregon — VocalBooth.com. I got it in with the floating floor, the whole thing; it's amazing. The speakers are also handbuilt in the U.S., in Portland, Oregon, by Barefoot. It was actually a KING DIAMOND fan that was part of putting mine together. So I got a small pair, which is still twelve hundred and some watts between the amps in them, in my studio room and then some bigger ones in my living room. I didn't know music could sound like that. They are for mixing and mastering and everything — handmade in the U.S.A. And I didn't think they could sound like that. I'm still blown away by it."

"Dreams Of Horror" track listing:

Disc 1 - Roadrunner:

01. The Candle
02. Dressed In White
03. The Family Ghost
04. Black Horsemen
05. Welcome Home
06. The Invisible Guests
07. At The Graves
08. Sleepless Nights
09. Let It Be Done
10. Eye Of The Witch
11. Insanity

Disc 2 - Metal Blade:

01. Dreams
02. The Spider's Lullabye
03. Waiting
04. Heads On The Wall
05. Voodoo
06. Black Devil
07. Help!!!
08. Spirits
09. The Puppet Master
10. Blue Eyes
11. Never Ending Hill
12. Shapes Of Black

King, 58, whose real name is Kim Bendix Petersen, underwent open-heart triple-bypass surgery in November 2010. He has since completed his cardiac rehabilitation program and has stopped smoking entirely, changed his diet and is getting regular exercise.

KING DIAMOND received a Grammy nomination in the "Best Metal Performance" category for the track "Never Ending Hill" off the group's latest album, "Give Me Your Soul … Please".

"Give Me Your Soul ... Please" sold 4,500 copies in the United States in its first week of release to debut at position No. 174 on The Billboard 200 chart.

In other news, KING DIAMOND vinyl has been made available throughout 2014. Currently, vinyl versions of "Them", "Abigail", "The Eye", "Fatal Portrait" and "The Puppet Master" are available now on the Metal Blade webshop. "Conspiracy" and "In Concert" will be coming this January.

This may explain fewer songs as per the Roadrunner material since Warner now owns them and probably demanded a lot of money.

Still no excuse for missing "No Present For Christmas" and "Halloween"-2 seasonal classics ha ha!

I will get this to hear the new mastering on the Roadrunner material especially although the Roadrunner Gold CD remasters were pretty good from the late 90's.

Picked up what I think is a used copy of "Abigail" yesterday. I'm kind of anxious to hear it. Just need the time now!

Oh man, will you enjoy it Alan. The guitar playing is so detailed.

This album needs to be a movie, and in a rare occurrence the sequel Abigail II: The Revenge from 2002 is damn good.

Not as good as the original Abigail.

I hold this album in very high reverence.

All hail the King!

Gotta disagree IP, I thought the Abigail II album was awful, the worst album in the catalog of King Diamond/Mercyful Fate.

Awful and worst are way too strong for me-makes me sound like a boob! I disagree, but it's all good as we are big fans.

King still plays songs from it (not sure about this tour).

Although I like every album I guess if I had to pick a weaker effort I'd go with Voodoo.

Got this in the other day and it is beautifully packaged.

Interesting that some of the tracks are listed as alternate versions from overseas releases.

Haven't had time to listen just yet.

Looks like everything is newly remastered, but some of the songs are not the same versions as on the US albums.

Too bad Arrival wasn't included.

But the new remasters sound pretty good on this.

Agreed Mark-the sound quality here is the best by far for King Diamond and if those Merycful Fate remasters go through this same process, that will be special.
