This from the Deep Purple site Darker Than Blue:
David Coverdale has announced this archive DVD release from the band’s classic era, specifically the Slide It In live tour, with footage from Super Rock Japan and Sweden in 1984, which was Jon Lord’s last show ever as a member of the band, plus bonus audio CD disc with other live extra tracks (NOT available separately).

If you're not nice
Bump: I've added some more details to Louie's opening post. In addition to the CD/DVD set, there will also be a standalone DVD. The track listing which Frontiers has provided appears to be for the DVD, and we're waiting to find out exactly what will be included on the CD.

MUCH bigger fan of the 1978-82 Blues era but I will get this even though I have the Super Rock Festival on DVD already and a few other shows from this era on DVD too.
I thought this era was good though, but it's the old stuff I dig.
Damn-I can;t even keep up with all these releases!

I always wondered what might've happened had Coverdale not fired Sykes during the recording of the 1987 album and that lineup had toured.
On the other hand, we got a great one and done album from Blue Murder because of that!
I'm with you Chris.
I had heard from a VERY reliable source at the time that the firing was because of John's addictions and there simply was no avoiding it.
I wish these guys could put their differences aside and join back up together (especially since Aldridge has quit the band). They were an amazing songwriting team and I'm sure even now, 25 years later, they could still put out something great.

I'm not too sure how long Whitesnake with Sykes would've lasted if Sykes had stayed on board. You have to remember that "hair" bands died out not long after the following album with Vai.

I consider the UK version of Slide It In to be firmly in the "blues" era of Whitesnake, and the more commercial version of the band didn't start until Keith Olsen remixed the album. The original UK mix (and order of songs) just kills what was released in the USA.
I don't think Sykes will ever be long for any band at this point. He and Mike Portnoy/Billy Sheehan were supposed to start a new band, but it all fell apart because Sykes was moving at a snail's pace. Portnoy/Sheehan ditched him and then hooked up with Richie Kotzen for The Winery Dogs project. Seems to me that they are not the first guys who weren't happy with trying to work on Sykes schedule.

I got this from Amazon today along with Muswell Hillbillies . It's excellent , hearing Sykes live with Whitesnake is a treat . His playing is very good as is Cozy's and Mr Lord's . I think the sound could be a bit better , but its a great cd . I will be getting to the dvd tonight .

Most of the keyboards would be Richard Bailey as Lord left by the time of the Japan dates for Deep Purple.
Lord would be on the bonus cuts from Sweden, so I'm not sure how many are on there.
I've read reviews saying the audio isn't too hot here, especially the 5.1 (not that I need that).

You're right about Richard Bailey . I didn't even think about the Deep Purple reunion .The packaging and notes are a little deceiving , Coverdale writes of everyone and does not mention Bailey in his 4 pages of notes dated 8/14 . It would make you believe it's all Jon Lord , on the very last page of the booklet it says "the amazing collective talents of Jon , Cozy , Mel , John ,Neil , Micky , Colin and Richard Bailey" , that is the only mention of him .

I'm not surprised.
Bailey was for some unknown reason pushed to the side of the stage on that tour (Were they hiding that they used keyboards? Not like fans didn't know that Jon Lord was there prominently all those years!).
Every other keyboard player has been out front-I guess they briefly thought it was cool to look like a 4 piece when it wasn't true.
I'm not sure if I will end up getting this or not.
