Product Description
JERUSALEM was formed in the early 70’s and released in 1972 a self-titled album on the infamous Deram label which was produced by Ian Gillan.

They gigged all over Europe supporting Black Sabbath, Deep Purple, Uriah Heep and Status Quo before disbanding due to “musical differences”. The band reformed again in 2008 releasing their second album “Escalator” to much acclaim.

Now for their third album with original members LYNDEN WILLIAMS and BOB COOKE they are joined by the cream of the Prog Rock crop GEOFF DOWNES (ASIA,YES) and NICK D’VIRGILIO (TEARS FOR FEARS, SPOCK’S BEARD) and they have produced a stunning brand new Prog Rock album. What a band! What an album!!

1. Puppet King
2. Let Me
3. Black Horses
4. Leopard Skin Pie
5. Shades Of Blue
6. The Albatross
7. It’s All Over Now
8. Surfing From Sydney To Marrakech
9. Smokestack Ammunition
10. Eternity

Jerusalem slipped under my prog-loving radar. I will definitely check this out. The inclusion of Nick D'Virgilio, one of my favorite drummers of the last 20 years (and a fantastic singer as well) is a great selling point for me.

Their debut was released on CD as an expanded remaster about five years ago, on the Rockadrome label (a subsidiary of Vintage):

One of the Amazon reviewers describes the first Jerusalem album as "Deep Purple without keyboards", which is pretty accurate:

I think NDV is an underrated player. I first heard him when he toured as the drummer for Mike Keneally on the Dancing tour back in 2000. I've kind of lost track of Nick since, unfortunately, but his solo album is really good.

I liked his solo album but I think he really developed into an excellent vocalist after a couple of albums fronting Spock's Beard. His backing vocals on their albums during the Neal Morse era were an integral part of their sound. His drumming has impressed me since the first time I heard Spock's Beard's debut album around '96 or '97, and of course he played on a couple of songs on Genesis' Calling All Stations. He continues to contribute to various prog groups, including Big Big Train, and I believe he's also been part of Cirque Du Soleil.

He has played for Cirque. And I haven't heard enough of the Spock's Beard stuff after he took over vocal duties to judge his development. But the solo album really captured my attention.

I think you'll be really impressed with the Spock's Beard albums where he was the lead singer. As good as the NDV album is, it only hints at his talents.
