Quote: The company is putting its line of superhero comic books on hiatus for two months for Convergence, a nine-week miniseries kicking off with a zero issue April 1. The story line will spill into 40 two-part miniseries in April and May featuring a variety of writers and artists examining the worlds of the DC Universe over the decades, as well as the heroes and villains contained within.
"It captures the full essence and scope of DC's incredible history and storytelling," says co-publisher Dan DiDio.
"There is a story and a character for every generation of DC Comics fan."
Convergence spins out of the April 1 finales of the Earth 2: World's End and The New 52: Futures End weekly series. The alien supervillain Brainiac has trapped cities from various timelines and planets that have ended, brought them in domes to a planet outside of time and space, and is now opening them for a great experiment to see what happens when all these folks meet.
"We're picking up at points of their lives where we left them and finding out what's gone on with them since then," says DiDio.
One of the hallmarks of DC has been the popularization of a "multiverse" of parallel worlds of familiar characters, and that has led to story lines such as the 1985 crossover Crisis on Infinite Earths and this year's The Multiversity by writer Grant Morrison.
Since DC rebooted its entire superhero line as part of "The New 52" relaunch in 2011, fans have wondered if certain key moments in DC lore — the death of Superman, Bane breaking Batman's back, etc. — still "counted" in continuity, says co-publisher Jim Lee.
And there's the fact that people have also queried them about what happened to certain favorite characters and teams such as Donna Troy, Blue Beetle and the Justice Society of America, and why they haven't been reintroduced while others have.
"What we're really addressing is they all exist and have existed and exist within the framework of the New 52," Lee explains. "Convergence is in many ways the most meta epic event we've done." http://www.usatoday.com/story/life/2014 ... /18249201/

"Suppose they did a reboot and nobody read it?".

I'm a sucker for multiverse stories. So I will be paying attention to many of these. A co worker brought back the following rumor from NYCC. Apparently Convergence is the means of wrapping up old storylines from pre-Flashpoint. As the story goes through the various 2-parters, it will have a definite Crisis feel. But it will end with our classic Superman sacrificing himself so that the New 52 can survive. If true, that does bum me out.

Looking forward to 2019, when Arrow, Flash, Supergirl, Gotham, and Constantine begin to falter on TV, and they do simultaneous reboots on them.

Quote: The alien supervillain Brainiac has trapped cities from various timelines and planets that have ended, brought them in domes to a planet outside of time and space, and is now opening them for a great experiment to see what happens when all these folks meet.
"We're picking up at points of their lives where we left them and finding out what's gone on with them since then," says DiDio. Probably not much besides trying to figure out why they can't leave the city limits and the rest of the world has gone silent. With creative teams appropriate for each vintage (Jurgens, Ordway, et. al.), I wouldn't push this away. But how much story can be fit into two-issue minis? And what good is "finding out what's gone on with them since then" if all they do is spend both issues fighting Brainiac and then finding a new home for their bottled cities? That's not a continuation of their stories at all.

I don't know what good it does when it will all be undone later or make things more complicated instead of simpler.
It's starting to sound suspiciously like the old communist "5 Year Plans" revamped or forgotten every two years after it became clear they were crap.
Maybe it's all a Chinese plot to undermine Great Cultural Heroes...

If DC were willing to publish separate lines of comics (it wouldn't need to be a lot of titles in each) for Earth-1, Earth-2 and a mix of stories set on all the other Earths, maybe a lot of lapsed readers would return to the fold.

What they should've been doing since Crisis on Infinite Earths.
