Although SNL is even more abysmal than usual, a saw a commercial that Chris Rock is host tonight and Prince is musical guest.

Although the new Prince albums faded into oblivion quicker than Under The Cherry Moon in theaters, I will try to endure the show to see what he does (nothing classic I'm sure).

The Rock album is OK at best (writing isn't very good) and the R&B album is really, really weak.

I still think he's dynamite live so I hope it will be worthy.

I forgot about the time zone thing, I just read Cryton's post. Guess I'll find out!

I had no idea how wretched SNL had become. Probably been at least 10 years since I saw it.

I have the Windows 95 Saturday Night live CD-Rom that has some classic footage of when it was fun.
Blues Brothers etc.

Wow. When this band plays hard rock, they're awesome. IMO, his 2nd best band other than the Wendy & Lisa version of the Revolution.

2 caveats to what I'm about to say: I've only heard the soul album once (I really didn't like it) & my memory sucks; but with that said I think that entire medley was new unrecorded songs. I want a copy of that! (in today's world, likely easier done than said!)

Pete, try to listen to the rock album again; I've been playing a compilation of it & the 3rd Eye Girl singles constantly in the car. There are a couple of soulish dogs on there; but 80% of Plectrum is awesome.

The start of the performance was weak, but damn the last 4-5 minutes were explosive.

He and those chicks can seriously rock and the guitar work was wild.

Just the one segment though-I guess he figured play 8 minutes and why bother coming back?

I will try the Rock album again Geff.

What did you think of the performance?

By the way SNL blows! Soooooooooooo unfunny.

Has there ever been a SNL episode without a game show sketch? The best thing about SNL is the "digital shorts" they do. Last weeks Jim Carrey playing Matthew McCounaghy in a Lincoln was a hoot.

I enjoyed it. Live medleys are not new for Prince (though I wish he didn't go there as much as he does). I found it an interesting (brave??) decision to play what I believe were all new unrecorded songs. Also very interesting that for the first time in his career he's sharing lead guitar (though the "girl" is very good imo).

The girl is Donna Grantis - great guitarist, cool person. I was a little surprised by the Prince gig, because that's not the kind of music she did solo, but she's absolutely killing it. I'm really glad to see her getting this kind of exposure.

And that was one of the worst eps of SNL I've ever seen, and I haven't been a fan in years. When I have recorded the show, I've fast-forwarded through most of it. Last night's was just awful. I like MIchael Che, but the Pete Davidson bit is the new Drunk Uncle/Stephen A. Smith/Girl You Wish You'd Never Talked To for me - an instant reason to fast-forward. The skits were pathetic - I watched a couple all the way through and didn't even chuckle. Chris Rock's monologue had its moments, but it wasn't nearly as good as Louis CK's last season.

I only record when someone I want to see is on. That doesn't look to change any time soon.

And let's be honest - the show has had dead moments in almost every show, but the percentage is much higher now.

I DVRd the episode so I haven't seen it but I'm surprised a Chris Rock show could be this bad.
