IP address is supposed to be different, that's the address within your local network; two devices can't have the same one.
As for the problems, I don't know. Try resetting the connection.

What do you mean "slightly different"? How different? is it just the last number, or is it totally different?

OK, then that's normal, assuming the last two digits are after the last dot (period). So for example, one is 192.168.1.30, while the other is 192.168.1.31 would be normal, while 192.168.2.3 and 192.168.1.4 would not. The first three octets (each set of numbers around the dots) should be the same, with only the last being different. It's probably what Raf says to do.

Do you have any bluetooth peripherals attached to the iPad? There's an ongoing issue with bluetooth connectivity and wifi connectivity (Not just with iOS devices, though).

I'm installing the iOS 8 update now on my iPad. I'll see if I run into any WiFi problems.

iOS 8 is installed and appears to be playing with my home network (which uses an Apple Airport base station and DHCP for connecting to the iPad). It came on just fine using the previous settings.
When you say that your iPad won't stay connected...how long does it work before it loses the connection?

Some possible solutions: Quote: 1) Try switching Airplane mode on for 30 seconds, then turn it off and try connecting again. 2) Try holding down the home button and the Sleep/Wake button until your device restarts. 3) Turn your router off for 30 seconds and then switch it on again. 4) Go to Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings and then setup your Wi-Fi, Bluetooth again. 5) Try chaining the channel on your router and check the rest of the settings. 6) Make sure that your router firmware is up to date. 7) Try a factory reset of your iPhone. Here is a discussion about something that may be related: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/6539725I've updated my iPhone and iPad with no issues (other than my eternal struggle about the photos) so I don't have first-hand experience. Factory resetting seems excessive, though.

Gerry wrote: if I reset my ipad to factory settings will it have the version of ios from then, or 8 ? and will I be able to restore all my apps music etc ? I believe if you back it up first, whether to a computer or a cloud, and then factory reset you will have the option of setting up as a new iPad or restoring from an existing iPad version from your account. I had to do something similar a few months back.

To answer the first question, it will reset to ios8, not whatever it came with.
