I'm sure there'll end up being a general release, but it's a question of how long you can bear to wait.

I'm not a good waiter. I guess I'll have to use the credit on some George Harrison...and Chuck Prophet...and Lucinda Williams...and Led Zeppelin...and...

Actually, there's already a placemarker page for the box at Amazon UK:

http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00M8NMN48/?tag=imwan-21

It's pre-orderable, but since they have no release date listed I don't think I'd even want to try just yet. But we can watch the page.

Thanks Linda. That pre-order price is much higher than with the RG site. I think I'll order there now in case that lower price is a mistake.

For me, the total with postage was $66. I can't complain about that for an 8 disc set.

I need to get this. One of the best tours of his career.

Not all great guitarists are/were named Jimi Hendrix, Eddie Van Halen, Jimmy Page, and Jeff Beck. While those are just a few names that easily pop into the mind when thinking of great, innovative guitarists, they are by no means the only ones. In fact, there are many that have so little coverage that when mentioned in casual conversation, it’s usually countered with a blank stare along with a “who?”.

Of course, all of those guitarists that are usually not known as well as the obvious ones have a serious cult following, perhaps even more intensely revered. One of those names belong to Rory Gallagher. And while Rory Gallagher is no longer with us (he died at 47 due to liver issues), his guitar playing, his studio albums, and his incendiary performances have long stayed with us.

Amid the many studio gems Rory has released via the several labels he was signed to (Polydor, Chrysalis, etc), there is his 1974 live album called Irish Tour ’74. That set, with its original nine tracks over two LPs, featured the fiery guitarist in his natural habitat, the concert stage. The event was his run-through tour of Ireland.

On October 20, that album will be receiving some serious love by not only Legacy Recordings, but also Eagle Rock Entertainment with expansive content, and reissue.

Legacy Recordings will be observing the album’s 40th Anniversary with the massive, MASSIVE, release of Irish Tour ’74 as a Special Deluxe Edition containing seven CDs , and one DVD (NTSC – Region-free) of the show, inside a 10″ boxset covering three nights of this stop. Not only will the audio be remastered, but there will be 43 previously unreleased tracks (see track list below), along with a booklet filed with photos, new liner notes, memorabilia, and other cool things regarding the shows, the recordings, and the man!

Irish Tour ’74 Track-list:

(courtesy of Eagle Rock Entertainment)

* Previously unreleased

However, the above mentioned Legacy Box isn’t the only set being released. On October 21, Eagle Rock Entertainment plans a Special Edition 2CD reissue of Irish Tour, as well as a seven disc digital download of Irish Tour 40th Anniversary Deluxe Edition.

After all is said and done, Irish Tour ’74 will be as definitive a live set from one of the world’s most underrated guitar players, Rory Gallagher.

You’re welcome, Gallagher fans, and those that should be.

Bump: These threads are now combined, and the whole thing is back on our Vaults board since general releases are on the horizon. Only two pre-orderable links are up at Amazon so far -- see the first post -- plus of course the original MyPlayDirect one which Dental Floss Tycoon opened the thread with. More details as they become available ....

Yep, it's £27.99 and finally shows a UK general release date, October 20th:

Australia must get a much better exchange rate against British pounds than the USA does! £27.99 = $45.65 + shipping - VAT. For those in the USA, it's probably $5 or so cheaper than My Play's $52, but nowhere near 50%.

I think Adrian meant that it's become 50% cheaper than Amazon UK's initial price.

That makes sense, though the UK exchange rate may be more favorable to Australia also. I'd really like to see it get back to under 1.5 to 1.

It appears that the 8 disc version will not have a general release in the US and Canada, only the UK (and Ireland presumably). The release slated for North America is a 2 disc version. I can't be sure but it looks like Disc 1. is the original release and Disc 2. is the entire concert from Cork. That's a shame. If we want the full meal deal we will have to order from Amazon UK.
