Putting in a bonus disc of rare stuff to re-sell old stuff?

I wonder if Rush consulted Gene & Paul for this reissue...?

Rush puts out some of the best live blu-rays out there, so dive in if you don't have 'em!

Four of the five would be upgrades to Blu-Ray for me, and the bonus disc just puts it over the top.

Rush In Rio is on BR? That would be the only possible way I would get this.... and even then, I doubt it. Way to fleece people (once again). Just release the Rush In Rio BR and leave us be. We've already spent tons on this stuff already.

If the price comes down I might consider this since it would be a DVD-to-BR upgrade for me on most of the titles, but I would be 100% on board if they got someone to do new surround sound mixes. Rush DVDs have consistently had some of the worst sounding 5.1 mixes I've ever heard. I usually play the stereo track instead.

Geez, this is lame guys.

And I agree with Rich, the audio on most of the live releases lately has been disappointing (aside from R30).

Rush In Rio is totally unlistenable.

As for the bonus disc, just release it as a standalone and do the right thing.

The strange thing is that Rush usually gives fans their money's worth and don't often go for cash-grabs like these sets appear to be. I wonder if they don't have as much control over their video output as they do with audio.

Pete, I like the Rush In Rio CD and the stereo portion of the DVD is pretty good, but the 5.1 mix (which I know you don't care about) is horrible.

I always thought the 5.1 mix was listenable and the CD of Rush In Rio was an ear bleeder.

Upgrades across the board for me, but without the bonus disc I'd probably pass... here's a closer look.

10 DVDs for $90 odd isn't too bad. I'll bite at around $70 or so

That bonus DVD is weak.

I have the whole Capitol Theatre show already on DVD and it's in B&W.

The "Lock And Key" live video is just from the shoot.

Who cares about the Rock Hall Of Fame which everyone has seen to death.

The Toronto 1997 I believe is from the abandoned Different Stages DVD and would be nice though it's only a portion of the show and might be in-house camera feed only.

Not enough for me to bite.

That Rush In Rio CD is so bad sonic-wise all I can hear is massive reverb and all the Brazilian fans chanting to every note too loud.

I simply can't listen to it and I know I am not alone.

The 2 bonus cuts from the soundboard are far better.

I understand they used inferior equipment and had loads of weather issues but it still isn't fun for me to hear.

Here's the entire track listing:

Following last week's leak, Rush has now confirmed that they will be celebrating the 40th anniversary of the release of their debut album by releasing the R40 box set.
The home video box set collection will be offered in a 10 DVD or 6 Blu-Ray versions that will be housed in a 52 page hardback book. They are set for release on November 11th, 2014. The band sent out these details:

R40 will include "Rush In Rio", "R30", "Snakes & Arrows Live", "Time Machine 2011: Live In Cleveland" and "Clockwork Angels Tour" plus a bonus disc of previously unseen and unreleased live material that spans from 1974 to 2013.

The bonus disc will feature the full 8 songs from the Laura Secord Secondary School show in 1974 which features original drummer John Rutsey. That recording includes 2 Rush originals "I've Been Runnin;" and "The Loser", as well as their cover of Larry William's "Bad Boy", made famous by The Beatles.

The bonus discus also features 5 songs from songs from the Capitol Theatre in 1976 such as "Anthem" and "Lakeside Park", the rarely performed full, 7-part version of "2112" filmed in 1997, "Lock and Key" from the Hold Your Fire tour, as well as footage from the glorious evening when Rush fans got their beloved band inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

The Blu-Ray always had the whole concert, but it doesn't look like they're including those tracks on the DVD version. That would have been a nice bonus. I'd had the BD version on my wish list for that reason.

(Radio.com) Last week, Radio.com premiered "I've Been Runnin'," an extremely rare Rush track from their early pre-Neil Peart era. That song and "The Loser" are two songs that they band performed at a televised concert from the Laura Secord Secondary School in Ontario in 1974, which featured their original drummer, the late John Rutsey.

The entire set is included as bonus material on R40, a six-BluRay disc compendium compiling of all of their live concert films from the past few years. There's 2003's Rush In Rio, 2005's R30, 2008's Snakes and Arrows Live, Time Machine 2011: Live in Cleveland and last year's Clockwork Angels Tour. This week, Radio.com is proud to host the premiere of "The Loser."

We spoke with bassist/singer Geddy Lee about the performance, the band's early days, and how he developed his on-stage banter. What went through your mind when you watched the footage of you guys performing in 1974?

Well, watching that is like an out-of-body experience for me. Because I remember it, and at the same time, it was so long ago, it's hard to know if it's a real memory, or a dream state memory. It's hard to feel like that same guy who was screeching on the stage back then in unusual clothing.

Alex Lifeson told us that the thing that stuck out in his mind is that the audience were seated the entire time, no one got up! That was a very Canadian response back then. Canadians, especially back then, were an almost self-conscious audience. Even if they were loving it, most of the crowd was quite quiet. That's changed, of course, over the years. Back then, you would play a small town in Canada or across the country, and you wouldn't be sure that they were loving it. When they actually were loving it, but they weren't very demonstrative about it. So, we'd come back from the U.S. and American crowds were famously exuberant, and then you'd cross the border and do some small town in Saskatchewan or something, the crowd would be not so exuberant. You'd feel like you were bombing, but afterwards people would come up and say, "Man, I loved your show!"

Was it bittersweet, watching the footage with John Rutsey? Yeah, it is sad in one sense, but it's also quite a nice thing that this footage is available, so people can see what we were like with him, and what he was like. I think in a way, it helps keep his memory alive. He's part of our history.

Back then, John was the guy in the band who talked to the audience from the stage. Did you prefer that you didn't have to take on that role? I was always the reluctant… everything. I was originally a guitarist, and the bass player in my old garage band quit, and they voted and I became the bass player. I was the only one that could sing, so I became the singer. I didn't really want to write lyrics, so in the early days of Rush, John wrote the lyrics. I was a very shy kid, I didn't really feel comfortable talking to the audience, so John did that. So I really kind of backed into my entire career.
