Surprised they signed with a major, rather than a smaller label that might give them a bigger slice of the pie.
I was wondering if they'd transferred from Geffen to Capitol as part of the EMI/Universal buyout, but I see that their last album was on Cooking Vinyl.

Weird Based on 1 listen, my initial thought was that it was there best in several years. Like the recent Suzanne Vega where I also I appeared to be in the minority for liking it; it may be partially because I've heard several of these songs live.

Geff, I may need to spend more time with it. Maybe it will grow on me. Wouldn't be the first time an album took a few plays before I started to enjoy it.

Even though I spoke negatively about the sound quality (as regards hi-res); folks might want to consider buying one of the recent CC shows from Nugs to make these songs come alive for you. They also offer 44/16 & mp3 dl's at lower prices if you don't want to pay $18 for the hi-res versions. For 44/16 (cd) the sound is fine.

I like pretty much everything they've done, this included. I do agree that demos don't add much to the deluxe edition.
jay,
me too, i just couldn't get into this, seemed almost forced, like they were trying to squeeze too much into every song. their first 2 are just so damned good.

I think the 1st 2 were largely dealing with a failed relationship that Durvitz was in. Painful romantic relationships tend to make for great pop/rock song writing!
Best exampe I can think of is Dan Fogelberg; boy did his music go downhill after he fell in love with his wife!
