Wouldja believe I picked up a couple of these (pre-owned) just 2 weeks ago? Used copies have been commanding high prices for a while.

The box set seems fairly priced, and maybe will drop as street date nears. Plus bonus tracks---very tempting...

Outside of Bad Girls and a couple of comps, I don't have any of Donna Summer's albums.

Which do you guys recommend?

Not really any of these. This is later period Donna Summer and mostly very spotty stuff. You'd be better off with one thorough compilation drawn from these CDs than any or all of these.

So the Casablanca era would be a better bet, eh Steve?

Any recommendations from that one?

I was always quite fond of "Live And More", even though I'm generally not a huge fan of live albums. You also would be good with "Love To Love You Baby", "The Wanderer" and "She Works Hard For The Money". (Assuming that you already have "Bad Girls".)

Besides Bad Girls and On the Radio (for the hits), I've always been fond of Once Upon a Time.

As Walter P said, these albums aren't as consistently great as the ones she put out during the earlier part of her career, but there's still a lot to enjoy here, IMO. I have five of these and think that each has some terrific tunes and performances.

"The Wanderer" is the strongest album of the bunch, from the sly title track and the rock-ish "Cold Love" to the quirky "Stop Me" and gospel-flavored closer, "I Believe in Jesus." But I like a lot of the Quincy Jones-produced "Donna Summer," too, which features "Love is in Control" and a cover of Springsteen's "Protection," as well as "All Systems Go," which has the catchy title song and the playful "Dinner with Gershwin." "Cats Without Claws" includes the should-have-been-a-hit opener, "Supernatural Love," and an excellent remake of "There Goes My Baby," originally performed by the Drifters. And there's some wonderful pop on "Another Place and Time."

"The Journey: The Very Best of Donna Summer" has a a few tracks from this period, but it really would be great if there were a compilation drawn from just these later albums.

If you pick up Bad Girls, make sure you get the Deluxe Edition from Mercury released in 2003. It comes with 2 CDs, the second of which contains several 12" versions of early hits as well as the seventeen and a half minute MacArthur Park Suite. The suite was originally the studio recorded side four of the double LP "Live and More" but was eliminated from this set when it went to CD. Now it's just "Live." No more "and more."

Oh, I have that one. Got it around the time it came out. I'm not normally big on remixes, but for an artist like Donna Summer, it makes perfect sense.

It was very well done in terms of the sound and packaging.

One album I'm interested in is I'm A Rainbow, which originally was unreleased, but came out in the late '90s when Polygram reissued some of these albums. I think it was the last album she did with Georgio Moroder.

If some of these reissues are multidisc sets, the box set is looking more and more like a bargain. I'm locking in.

Addendum: my order rang up at £50.83, 10 pounds less than the listed price.

I might be up for a single disc reissue of one of these, if one exists.

Just took notice of the fact that She Works Hard For The Money isn't included in this set.

But these are the Geffen-era albums and She Works Hard was released through Mercury to settle the lawsuit against Casablanca.

I always thought it was funny that Summer's last big hits were on the album she released through her old label.

David Geffen wasn't laughing...
