The Planet Of The Apes franchise has given us the full range of simian cinema----♫ from chimp-pan-A to chimp-pan-Z...

The original 1968 movie is still the best one, IMO.

While obviously the original started it all and is a sci-fi breakthrough, I have a soft spot for Escape. Saw that one as a kid during a Saturday afternoon trip to the movies when seeing a movie was still magical. That one sticks with me.

I like the original movie cut down to a 25-minute Twilight Zone episode.

Same here. Escape had the double-whammy for me in that I'd seen no promotion for it and didn't know that it existed. Then I was looking through the newspaper and saw the ad for it playing in town... which blew my mind (since Earth was destroyed at the end of Beneath).

I'm watching the original right now (my vote for the best, btw) and Taylor says there is no moon. This is while they're walking through the Forbidden Zone at the beginning and wondering where they are. So, what happened to the moon?

Either the moon blew up somehow (there was some talk by one of the astronauts
about a strange cloud that could be seen at night. A ring of moon debris?).

Or, more than likely, they didn't see the moon when they arrived, and it just wasn't
visible when he had the time to look for one. Kind of would have ruined the shock
ending if he, as an astronaut. recognized the moon right away and went… EARTH!

Maybe. I just never thought of it and the obvious giveaway it should be, before now.

He just told Zira that he was in the FZ for many days and nights so he would have seen it if it was there. I guess I'll go with "blown up".

Moon could be hidden from sight fir two or three days. More if it were cloudy and/or
he was staying in caves or something during his Forbidden Zone nights. He probably
needed t find some kind of cover.

I'm going with the Thundarr solution.

Once you know the reveal, the map of the Forbidden Zone from the first movie starts to look familiar. Isn't that Long Island to the east...?

If Matt Reeves has done his job right with Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, and we think he has, the film will drive people back to the original series. Viewers should be so curious about what comes next that the new film will turn people on to not only the 1968 original, but its sequels as well. Artist Alex Ross is doing that, too. He’s releasing four brand new Planet of the Apes posters based on covers of the Boom Studios Comic Planet of the Apes: Cataclysm. They’ll first be available at San Diego Comic-Con via Acme Archives. Check out the Alex Ross Planet of the Apes posters below.
