Van Halen Working on Mysterious “Project”
David Lee Roth mentions in the new episode of The Roth Show that his band is “Working on a great Van Halen project” but also that he “Can’t announce anything, or I’d have to come find you and swear you to secrecy.” You can watch the episode embedded below. (Though no clues are to be found in the episode).
This makes the second time that Roth mentions Van Halen working on a “project.” We want to stress that he has never used the term “album” or “record” when referring to Van Halen is working on. Despite that fact, whenever any website reports what Van Halen is supposedly working on, a “new album” is always mentioned. We don’t know if that is the case.
What mysterious “project” is this? Perhaps it’s another greatest hits collection with a couple new songs included. Or perhaps it could be something bigger, like a new EP or a (yes) a full album. Or something else? We don’t know what they’re up to and we could speculate forever. We’ll just have to wait ands see…

Eddie Van Halen Visits Howie Weinberg Mastering Studio July 13, 2014 Leave a Comment
Eddie Van Halen dropped by the Howie Weinberg Mastering Studio this week. Howie mastered Van Halen’s last album, A Different Kind of Truth. Hopefully Ed didn’t drop by to simply say hi—could this visit have something to do with the mysterious Van Halen “project” that we reported on earlier this year?!
The above photo is from Howie’s facebook page. On July 10th, he posted it with, “Eddie Van Halen came by to visit Howie at his studio.”
Howie Weinberg is a world renowned mastering engineer, with 4 Grammy nominations, 4 TEC Awards, over 3000 releases, 200 Gold Records and an estimated quarter of a billion records sold.
With over 30 years experience as head mastering engineer at the world renowned Masterdisk Studios in NYC, Howie Weinberg has created one of the most prolific careers in the music industry.
With 4 Grammy nominations, 4 TEC Awards, over 3000 releases, 200 Gold Records and an estimated quarter of a billion records sold, Howie Weinberg and Jambetta Music has opened a truly unique mastering studio complete with the most advanced digital and analog equipment in the world. Situated in the Laurel Canyon Hills of Los Angeles and only 5 minutes from Sunset Blvd, welcome to Howie Weinberg’s Mastering Studio.

If they put out another disc, I sure hope it literally doesn't sound like shit as the last one did. I listened to it only twice. It was too painful to do otherwise.

Mastering was lousy and so were the songs. I tried again recently and cannot deal with the last album. I'm not too ramped up for another VH album unless they somehow go to a throwback sound which would be cool even with DLR's shot vocals.

Unless Eddie's pulled himself together, I can't see the current VH configuration recording new material. However, could the band be checking out a studio for the purpose of remastering their David Lee Roth era catalog? I don't know what the technical requirements are to do that work, but a studio would seem to be the logical place to get it done. Enquiring minds might be on the look-out to see if Ted Templeton shows up in the vicinity as I think he would be a key element in any such program. And here's a frightening thought for you VH fans. The Van Halen's (i.e. Eddie's) feelings about MIchael Anthony are well known. Would you put it past him to remaster the catalog, only to replace Michael's bass parts with newly recorded work from Wolfgang? Nah, no one would every do anything like that. Right Sharon...

I literally have no memory of "A Different Kind of Truth.". That's frightening.

VH's "A Different Kind of a Truth" really blew chunks. I mean waiting for 25 years and that's the best they can come up with? Here's hoping this mysterious next release will be something worth listening to and writing about. Personally I think DLR's voice is passed it's prime (he's getting older) he can't hit the high notes anymore but sound engineers can do miraculous things in a studio. IMHO, VH needs to hit this one out of the park. Producing an album from which only the "Diver Down & Fair Warning" VH contingent seem to be happy will not suffice!

It's called "auto Tune" & it disgusts me. Milli Vanilli no longer need "ghost vocalists", just a bloody machine to adjust the flat notes.
