I would have been more okay with it if they had gone with this design FOR the reboot
instead of having her recover first from the leg/spine injury, then graduating to a high-tech
suit, and now, seemingly, reducing her age and body mass to that of a younger girl.

Seems a better "starter" outfit for her.

It was posted in the DC thread a couple of days ago. I think it's a great design and approach (fun without being exploitative).

I am dying to know what Linda thinks.

As for me, I'm torn. It's a nice design that would work well in a movie or TV show but not sold on it for Batgirl.

Why can't they just do a total reboot if they are going to do one at all. Everytime they screw themselves over by keeping this or that. Batgirl starting out for the first time, maybe make Cloe from Smallville the new Oracle as a way to keep both?

I like the Chloe idea. And I used to hate total reboots but boy is one needed now.

While it's not bad by contemporary standards, I'm inclined to agree with Linda that it's overdesigned.

She definitely looks girlish.

Batgirl will always be a young woman or woman to me.

Supergirl I can accept as a teen, since that's how she began her career.

Barbara Gordon To Look More Librariany - And Revamp Was Only Going To Be 6 Issues
Posted April 5, 2015 by Rich Johnston

At the Modern Superheroines panel at Wondercon (read it all here, courtesy of BC EIC Hannah Means-Shannon) we learnt a couple of interesting things about the recent Batgirl revamp,

Firstly that the run by Cameron Stewart, Brenden Fletcher and Babs Tarr was originally thoght of as a six issue experiment that was only approved because it was six issues until Convergence and so, what the hell.

And, as a result, seems to have influenced many books launching after Convergence, we have previously reported on this as being referred to internally at DC Comics as “Batgirling” their comics.

And secondly, the current look of Barbara Gordon will be changing, As Oracle, operating out of a wheelchair, Gordon was a librarian and know a number of librarians who were rather put out at the character being relaunched in 2011 out of the wheelchair and out of the library.

Well, Babs stated that she’s slowly working more “librarian style” into Barbara’s clothing choices, so that the character will grow visually as she gets older.

Tarr referred to the fashion panel this morning, where the costume for Supergirl was discussed and how the way someone is presented affects the way you “read” the costume. Castellucci agreed that some “femininity” and “sexuality” is appropriate, and removing them might be a problem when trying to develop “fully fledged character”.

And, presumably, gets a greater grip on the Dewey decimal system…

"Working more "librarian style" into Barbara's clothing choices?" All kidding about tightly pulled hair buns and granny glasses aside, I'm not sure what that would mean. Most libraries do have dress codes that encourage fairly conservative, professional attire, but within those limits there's a pretty fair amount of diversity.

Of course I'm not the person to weigh in on questions of style, since I don't really have any. Just enough to avoid completely pulling a faux pas most of the time. Lucky I work in a rural library where we can get away with being more casual.

Okay, we're informal here, but showing off one's midriff at the circ desk is one of our definite no-nos!

Well, DC's writers and artists would more likely depict their naughty librarian fantasies rather than what librarians actually wear to work.

I'm curious why this is even a press release, though. Is it really a selling point for their products to offer more librarian content? You and I might be sitting on a goldmine, Daphne.

I'm surprised that the Batgirl revamp was only supposed to be six issues.

But I don't WANT some comic book writer sticking me in a refrigerator!
