origins -- well, nothing was really etched in stone, heavily influenced by Squadron Supreme and the Avengers. I think SOLAR was the only one I ever wrote an extended origin for -- but it gets summed up as a cross between Iron Man and the Green Hornet -- a suit of weapons technology on a rich kid with nothing better to do but fight crime, who later finds meaning on his hero's journey.

EPSILON claims to be an alien (ala Superman) - but really isn't. His fraud puts his whole schtick in doubt and he has to rise above it all (powerless) to find the hero within.

BLACKHAWK - basically a Falcon rip off, nothing special there.

MR SPEED is my Quicksilver character - he has a twin brother SCUBA. Scuba ends up getting murdered by Omega and it send Mr Speed over the edge. He sort of becomes a brutal vigilante speedster. Not sure of the origins of their powers. I was thinking of making it something to do with an experimental drug that was administered when the twins, born joined, were separated.

STARLIGHT is an alien/mutant chick. She's hot for Epsilon since she thinks he's an alien, too. She finds out he's not and fucks him up for tricking her into banging him.

RADON - was kind of a rip off of NUKE in Squadron Supreme. He has radioactive powers, that aren't killing him, but they are killing those close to him (girl friends, family, etc) -- he's sort of my "AIDS" character (remember, this was conceived in the 80s). He knows he has this disease and he's hiding it and being completely irresponsible about it. He becomes suicidal and dies senselessly in battle with Omega.

OMEGA - a total bad ass. He's a MIMIC sort of character who has been alive for centuries and collected hundreds of powers. I flip flop on what his weakness is, what defeats him. Sometimes it's "beauty killed the beast", sometimes its his "ego", sometimes it's the "Darth Vadar syndrome - there is good in him", sometimes it's the "gameplayer" who is tired of winning and desperately wants to lose (die) since he's so old.

Sour milk that's been sitting in a carton for a few weeks is a good weakness.

Just kidding. I like the concept a lot. And the art is good stuff.

I really dig the costumes. OK, Mr. Speed is kid of begging to be punched in the gut with those arrows, but they all have a great Bronze Age feel.

Nice work. I really like some of these reworkings. I can see a great progression.

Patrick, since I couldn't put my drawing table up during my marriage, I bought a portable drawing board instead. It's like a huge clipboard. You could tuck it behind furniture then whip it out when you wanted to draw.

And quote Blazing Saddles in the process.

not that I've done much recently (just some experimental stuff), but I'm moving and the table (and all my gear) is going away again -- won't have it until near the end of 2011

:-(

so I hadn't picked up the ink pens in a while (about 18 months) -- with the move and everything -- so I finally found a corner to set the table up and decided to try inking something.

Back in school,Pat and I would regularly go to the library at lunch time to plan out the characters and some plots for TASK FORCE.
They were good times, also comparing our latest pencils.

Sadly I lost almost all my super hero drawings from those days.Really need to try my hand at some stuff these days.
They were really good times.

Yeah -- I remember we came up with a character called "RIDER" -- we did a sketch of him, I can't remember if he rode a motor-cross bike or a BMX. I think it was a BMX.

Good times, those 80s.
