From rollingstone.com:

King Diamond is grateful for many things – but few more so than the invention of theatrical blood.

The singer – who had a triple heart bypass in 2010 – recalls using stage props that were all too real in his early days and says he'd never use “pig guts” on stage again.

He tells Rolling Stone: “When I was in the band Black Rose, I had a friend that worked at a butchery who would get me pig heads that I would tie together. He would also bring pig guts and pig blood, and I would fill that into little plastic bag.

“I put it in a the stomach of a big doll onstage, and I would stab it. It looked so real. And I would stick my hand in and pull the guts out from the stomach and throw them into the audience. It was completely gross. I wouldn't do that today. “You don't need to use real, sticky pigs' blood, which smells really bad, too. I would stand there with it in my hands and everything is sticky. Your hand became one with the microphone, it seemed. Eventually, you find out there is theatrical blood and it really doesn't cost very much.”

He also revealed he and his band are working on a deeply personal new album for which he already has a title. He says: “We've done a lot of stuff. We are going in some new ways that are going to be amazing. I've been building a studio so I can do my vocals at home. Once it's completed, we can start recording.

“I have a title for a new record, but I won't say it. It will encompass the things I need to write about after what I went through. But I can't say much about it because I haven't talked to the rest of the band about it.”

Long live the King!

So happy he's healthy, doing a new album and touring! Why no Philly date? He always sells out shows here. We have to go to NY now.

From loudwire.com:

It’s actually happening! Heavy metal icon King Diamond has officially announced a batch of North American tour dates for 2014. Rumors of a 2014 tour have been circulating for a couple of weeks, with hopeful fans praying for the dark forces to come through. Thankfully, we can report that the metal gods have gifted us with a rare gem.

Both before and after completing a comprehensive European tour in 2006, a live performance from King Diamond has been very rare in North America. With the timelessness of King Diamond’s music in mind, there are legions of new fans who have been waiting patiently to see their heavy metal hero wail his trademark falsetto in concert for the first time.

King Diamond will be joined onstage by longtime band members Andy LaRocque, Mike Wead, Hal Pacino and Matt Thompson. An opening act has yet to be revealed, but King Diamond promises that his upcoming shows “will be the most ambitious and largest productions in North America in the band’s entire history.” We’re sold!

Check out the full list of tour dates below!

King Diamond 2014 North American Tour:
10/11 – Atlanta, Ga. @ Center Stage

He and his wife have been working on the At The Graves DVD with footage throughout the years for sometime now. Long delayed, I read that they were having rights and transfer quality issues, so who knows?

But a DVD of the current tour with the biggest theatrical production is a must!

Yeah, I heard about that now that you mention it.

I saw King with Mercyful fate on the '92 reunion tour. Good show.

King Diamond are planning a 2016 studio return.

The band are currently on tour across the US with Exodus. And longtime guitarist Andy LaRocque reports they hope to start laying down tracks for the follow-up to 2007’s Give Me Your Soul… Please early next year.

He tells The Metal Voice: “We are going to have a little break after this tour, and after that break we are going to start writing music for the next album.

"We have some riffs but once we start getting into the process it's going to be lots of brainstorming. It’s going to be somewhere around February."

Mainman King Diamond said earlier this year that he and the band wouldn’t be rushed into recording fresh material – but vowed what they delivered would be “the best you’ve ever heard from us.”

They’re playing their 1987 album Abigail in full on their current run of shows which continues tonight (November 16) at The Tabernacle in Atlanta.

KING DIAMOND, EXODUS US TOUR DATES
Nov 16: Atlanta The Tabernacle, GA
Nov 19: New York Playstation Theater, NY
Nov 20: New York Playstation Theater, NY
Nov 21: New York Playstation Theater, NY
Nov 23: Pittsburgh Stage AE, PA
Nov 24: Boston Orpheum, MA
Nov 25: Philadelphia The Fillmore, PA
Nov 27: Chicago Aragon Ballroom, IL
Nov 28: Detroit The Fillmore, MI

Now been 10+ years since the last studio album from King Diamond. He keeps talking about starting a new album and the DVD project which he's probably been talking about for the last 15 years and still nothing seems to be happening. Has this guy now retired from studio work and now limits himself to doing Abigail tribute shows 2 to 3 months out of the year?

Just yesterday I saw pro-shot footage from the current tour on the King's FB page, so I hope that DVD is finally coming out.

It looked and sounded amazing.

As for the At The Graves DVD, when that ever surfaces I'd love to know.

The last studio album was so good (and even got a Grammy nomination), I'd love to get just one more.

Don't know if that will ever happen.

KING DIAMOND Preparing To Begin Work On Long-Awaited New Studio Album
April 3, 2018

KING DIAMOND is preparing to enter the studio to begin writing and recording the long-awaited follow-up to 2007's "Give Me Your Soul... Please" album. The band is also putting the finishing touches on the Blu-ray and DVD filmed during KING DIAMOND's 2015-2016 "Abigail In Concert" tour.

KING DIAMOND's singer and namesake spoke about the group's plans for the coming months during a March 29 appearance on Eddie Trunk's SiriusXM radio show. He said: "As soon as the DVD is finished — it'll be a matter of two or three weeks — [KING DIAMOND guitarist Andy La Rocque] is showing up here [in Frisco, Texas] to initiate my home studio where I'm gonna do all the vocals for a brand new KING DIAMOND studio album."

Although the music for the next KING DIAMOND disc is far from completed, the storyline is "about 80 percent done," according to King. "There's some very unique things I'm putting into it this time where you will relate to some of the sounds you hear on it, 'cause it's sounds that you will hear on certain days in your private life," he said. "You're outdoors, or whatever, and you might hear certain sounds and you will, guaranteed, think, if you heard the album, 'I wonder if that thing King talked about could have happened when I heard that sound here.'"

After recently signing with 5B Artist Management, the company that represents SLIPKNOT and MEGADETH, among other acts, King said that 2019 will likely see KING DIAMOND "playing more shows than we might have ever played in a year in our career. And that has a lot to do with new management and a great booking agent and record label — everybody around us is really doing a great job of trying to put a whole lot of things together that would never have been possible the way we were doing things up until now where we have done everything ourselves. I know 5B was very surprised that we had gotten to where we were without having management ever," he added. "We had to learn the hard way all the time. But it's nice to have the knowledge, and now it's great to see some people that have the power to open doors that we cannot open ourselves."

According to King, the forthcoming Blu-ray and DVD will contain two full KING DIAMOND concerts — one recorded at an indoor venue in 2015 in Philadelphia and other at the outdoor Graspop Metal Meeting festival in 2016 in Belgium.

"The way we recorded it, the way it's been edited is very unique," King said. "I don't think our fans will have seen anything like it ever before. On the entire tour — both tours — we recorded ourselves [using] nine GoPros [cameras] every night, placed in different places: in a coffin, on lanterns we used [around the stage], grandma's wheelchair had a thing on it, on guitars and railings… It was everywhere; we didn't even know where they were until after [we saw them]. And there was 25 shows that we did it to. And then the two shows we did with nine pro cameras on top of it."

At this point, King and his team are "98 percent done" editing and mixing the Philadelphia show, "and it has blown my mind," he said. "Every time I watch a few songs from it, I see new things I didn't see before."

Andy said in a 2017 interview that he was "pretty sure" KING DIAMOND's next album would once again be a concept record. As for the disc's musical direction, the guitarist said: "I don't really know yet, because we don't really have the songs yet. Whatever comes to mind, I believe. It's probably gonna be a good mix of everything. Probably, I would say, a classic KING DIAMOND album, with a good sound."

According to Andy, he and King Diamond will jointly produce the band's next album. "And then we'll see what's happening, depending on what way we're gonna go with it," he said. "But King's got his own home studio set up, so he's gonna record all the vocals back him, in his cellar — black and dark, of course, with spiders and bones and skulls."

The "Abigail In Concert 2015" tour saw KING DIAMOND performing the classic 1987 album "Abigail" in its entirety.

KING DIAMOND in 2002 released an album called "Abigail II: The Revenge", which was said to feature a storyline that was the sequel to the original "Abigail" LP.

Thanks Chris!

Been waiting forever for the live Abigail DVDs as well as the At The Graves DVD live comp (that will never surface) and the new album.

All hail the King!

I'm not a King Diamond fan, but I thought someone would be interested in this.

:D

"preparing to begin work" = I'll only believe we'll have a new King Diamond album when I am holding it in my hands.

Biggest debate in the music community, who will get their new album out first, King Diamond or Tool?

Yes, but Tool have been "recording" for 10 years or so.

I agree about the King.

It's been too long, but he has been touring his deviled ham ass off and that had to take away time.

Announced today on the King's Facebook page:

After introducing a new live show, as well as music, at festivals across Europe this summer, King Diamond is now ready to officially reveal the title and theme for the first studio album in 12 years: The Institute! Fans can expect the debut single to arrive this fall and an album in 2020; in the meantime, a tour teaser with a sneak peak of the new stage set can be viewed at: https://youtu.be/AdoUczDwKh4

King Diamond comments about the upcoming album The Institute: "For reasons unknown to you, it is clear that you have no way of making it to 'The Institute' on your own at this point. Therefore, we will bring THE INSTITUTE to you. You don't want to miss this special opportunity for treatment only we can give you. It could be for your own good, you know..."

In support of The Institute project, King Diamond will embark on a North American tour with Uncle Acid & the Deadbeats and Idle Hands in November/December.

First off, it's great to see King playing bigger venues each year, and seeing him at the Tower will be wickedly fun.

Secondly, the new album will finally be out next year, with the first single coming this fall.

Hard to believe it's been 13 years since the last studio album.
