Animated features on DVD.
Left out the ones which co-starred Superman and his other DC cohorts.
Technically,Return of the Joker may not count, but it has Bruce Wayne,so it gets by.

Return of the Joker definitely counts. It is Batman after all. It is also the only one of those I have actually seen.

Year one, Sub zero, Gotham Knight--all great entries and I suspect, even though I haven't seen it yet, that DK will be pretty faithful and great.

BUT as far as an original story and top notch animation, you really do not get any better than Batman Beyond: Return of the joker. 5 stars.

He's part of an ensemble, but I like Justice Leauge: Crisis on Two Earths.

Under the Red Hood for me.

For some reason, I've never just completely warmed to Return of the Joker (even the uncut version) the way so many others have. It's not for lack of trying.

Dark Knight Returns. It lacks Bruce' inner monologue, which would have made it perfect, but it still captures the best Batman ever.

Same vote for me, but I don't really like extended inner monologue in film. IMO, one of the flaws of the Watchman adaptation -- a lot of that stuff just doesn't sound as good as it reads.

True, it can be difficult to pull off. Still, the inner dialogue by Miller really makes the book shine, and adds a whole other level to the story. I think if you do it in a noir-ish way it can work.

Yes, see Sin City. It's much, much better than its source material.

Yeah, but it was much more fun and well done in live action.

Agreed, but at least the live action gave you some idea.
