Graphic Ink: The DC Comics Art of Frank Quitely Hardcover

Image

Frank Quitely's amazing, finely detailed artwork has been gracing the pages of DC Comics since he began illustrating stories in THE BIG BOOK series, from DC's Paradox Press imprint, in the mid-90's. Quitely quickly earned a name for himself illustrating fellow Scotsman Grant Morrison's FLEX MENTALLO, JLA EARTH 2, as well as Neil Gaiman's SANDMAN: ENDLESS NIGHTS.

Graphic Ink: The DC Comics Art of Frank Quitely collects all of Quitely's BIG BOOK stories, his ALL STAR SUPERMAN and BATMAN & ROBIN: REBORN covers and much, much more!

Just got this puppy today. Was a bit surprised with this one -- usually these books are collections of cover art and sketchbook selections. Its actually a compilation of rarely seen stories done by Quitely... mostly short stories. Its got the entirety of his Batman graphic novel one-shot set in Scotland.

I guess you can say its a pleasant surprise... I wasn't expecting this but its nice to have some of this work that I'd never track down on my own.

Is that the actual cover? It's kind of wonky looking, not to mention odd crotch shot.

Bizarre. Quitely's a favourite artist, but that cover's not a good one.

I thought the same thing. The crotch shot is making me want to turn away.

It looks like an All Star Batman cover... even my wife said, "That's not a very flattering cover for Robin."

By his face, I think Batman's ready to make a fart noise, so everyone would think Robin let one rip while doing that splits jump. Who says Batman hasn't a sense of humour.

Much as I like Frank's art, he draws a pretty pathetically anorexic Dick Grayson Robin. And rude to boot.
