An all around thread dedicated to the seven and a half great decades of the best fictional character ever created.

Let's start with Comics Should Be Good polls:

http://goodcomics.comicbookresources.co ... d-artists/

Adams is predictably #1 for artists. The Writers' top 5 poll results aren't in yet, but they will be Bill Finger, Grant Morrison, Frank Miller, Denny O'Neil and Steve Englehart. Possibly in that order.

That's dumb. The Ninja Turtles aren't real.

It's nice to see Chris Simms celebrating this anniversary as a fellow Batmanologist.

Quote:
Why Spider-Man Is The Best Character Ever (Even Better Than Batman)

Batman might be Chris's favorite, but -- according to this column, at least -- Spider-Man is objectively the best superhero ever. Find out how the two characters compare as a child's fantasy and a teenager's fantasy, and what Spider-Man's constant struggle against bad luck and atonement for his defining tragedy can tell us about the nature of heroism. (Also he lifts really heavy stuff.)

This thread is going to get contentious. I can tell.

Batman has had 75 years to prepare, however, so I'm pretty sure he can still win.

I think that scaled down (no armor, excessive number of gadgets, multiple Robins, over-teched Batcave) is a better character than Spidey. I'm usually not a Spider-Man fan at all, but I usually find the character more entertaining than souped-up Bats. I recently finished the Spider-Man: Family Business graphic novel and it was much more fun that New 52 Batman with his hologram-emitter in the utility belt and lie-detected goggles and all that crap.

Very interesting essay, especially in what it says about Spider-Man as a character learning hard lessons about maturity. I get the feeling that this particular thread isn't the best place to discuss it, though....

Batman is awesome.

But even within 75 years of awesome, there is a moment of un-awesome.

Submitted for yer approval...

Right. Superman is definitely better than Spider-Man and Chris Sims.

When I was a kid, I believe that Superman always got top billing.

We may disagree on everything else, but not on important things. "Batman &/V Superman" sounds wrong.

Even if they put Superman's name first, I'm not buying that shit.
