I used to love the part of American Top 40 where he would read the letters requesting a dedication.
I remember one where a girl wrote in saying that she was a big fan of Journey and went to see them in concert. She was the only black person there and felt really out of place. Steve Perry saw her and took her onstage and sang Open Arms to her and it was the greatest night of her life and asked if Kasem would dedicate it just for her.

Always loved Casey's Top 40's show and still catch it when I can on XM radio. It has become a tradition for Jimbo and me when we drive up to Boston to put the show on. I just marvel at how diverse the Top 40 once was.

I was painting before Game of Thrones and I was listening to an episode of American Top 40 from 1981 that someone had posted on YouTube. The request for a dedication was fro and ugly guy who was afraid to speak to a girl that he saw in a library each week because he was self-conscious about being hideous and at one point in the program Casey said "Holy ____, Batman!" (can't remember the word, we've been drinking.) Listening to Casey and the songs really brought back memories. I probably didn't miss an episode of that radio show for five years back in the 80s.
