I'm treading on last week's Friday List again.

This week is a wonderful Stax classic song.......though most probably only know it as disco.

Vote favorite version, not favorite artist.

The first time I heard Amii Stewart's version, I said "That's a #1 record."

Still one of my favorite disco songs.

Amii Stewart.

The first time I heard Eddie Floyd's, I thought "They ruined an awesome song." Yes, I realized at the time that it was the original.

For me, Bowie's version on "David Live" by a landslide. When I used to occasionally play that song in top 40 cover bands, we always used that arrangement.

While I'm sure Amii Stewart's version was played in a lot of dance clubs, I never really considered it to be disco, or at least not hardcore disco. It avoided that standard disco 4/4 rhythm and the production cliches that tainted the worst of the genre. She gets my vote on this one.
