Product Description
Compiled onto one CD for the first time, this 12 track set comprises 6 Steven Wilson originals and 6 covers of songs by Alanis Morissette, Abba, The Cure, Momus, Prince and Donovan, released on the rare Cover Version singles series between 2003-2010. In March 2003 Steven Wilson released Cover Version, a 2 track CD single which was limited to 3,000 copies. Despite an illustrious career fronting a number of acts, including Porcupine Tree and No-Man, and recording under various guises (IEM, Bass Communion), this was the first piece to be released under his own name. The single was made up of one cover version along with one new, self-written composition. This proved to be the first of a series of Cover Version releases as over the next few years he released a further five singles. The artists that he covered reflect the diverse range of music that influences him, taking in tracks by Alanis Morissette, Abba, The Cure, Momus, Prince and Donovan. Each of the CD singles were limited to 3,000 copies, with the final release (Cover Version VI) coming in a special box to house all six CDS, with artwork designed by Carl Glover and a booklet of portraits of Steven by Hajo Mueller. There was also an even more limited run (500 copies) of 7" singles but as Wilson's popularity has grown, both through his work with Porcupine Tree and through his burgeoning solo career, these long sold-out releases have become much sought-after by collectors. These tracks provide a fascinating insight into both Wilson's musical taste and his development as a solo artist. Due to be released by Kscope in a sleevepac with artwork 'remixed' from the box design by Carl Glover.

ABBA cover. Obviously a man of discerning taste.

You gotta give credit to Steven Wilson as a marketing genius as well as a music genius. just keep issuing and re-issuing his music in different formats etc. I am certain he will re-issue all the best Porcupine Tree albums on BluRay-Audio soon enough.

I have had these songs for years on CD. They are an aquired taste.

not one of his best set of recordings.

I disagree. For what this is...a casual series of covers & originals...it's really enjoyable. I don't think of it as an official album. Anyone who even remotely likes Steven Wilson should definitely check this out.

It kinda sucks for those of us who laid out the $$$ for all six CD singles, buying them individually as each was released and paying international shipping etc. and now this arrives, with virtually not one additional song, no alternate versions etc., none of the things usually included on anything remotely connected to the genuine of music — and marketing — that is Mr. Wilson...

I am one of those guys who had the separate singles, I am a huge Steven Wilson fan, I still stick with my opinion its not one of his best.
However if this is only $10-$15 then its a good deal.
