Honest to God, if I can't come up with something for this I have no business ever trying to write anything ever again. Ever.

I need a name for my character. He's a Zingaran, a handsome, dashing rogue (much like myself):
Odaro Rodero Rodaro Odero Elthero Eldero Eldaro Alfero Alfaro Alfera
Pick one.

Rodero sounds dashing, and somewhat rakish.

Yay! That was actually the first one I came up with so that's appropriate.

I have a beginning and an end so far just plotted out in my head. But I'm pleased with the reveal I came up with for the end. Now I just have to come up with the middle. But they say the beginning and especially the end are best to have at first. But this guy is worthy of becoming a repeat character. Not that he will I don't imagine. But he's good enough. I'm glad this isn't due for a while.

Conan isn't in the public domain, is it?

No...but you could write about the adventures of Nacon the Sumerian and not be sued by anybody.

They actually still argue about whether Conan is public domain. Some of the stories which feature Conan are listed as public domain. But Paradox disputes all this. But what Simon says is true and I'm not writing a Conan story or even mentioning him by name. I'm not sure of all the legalities involved in setting stories in the Hyborian Age. I presume the guys calling for this are cognizant of whatever they need to be concerned about. If nothing else I'll have a useless piece kinda like the Fantastic Four t-shirt design.

Well, you can just set it in the 'Hannarian Era', and re-work it for your own purposes if it comes to that.

The Hyborian age is kind of like Vikings on steroids. I think you'd like it.

Beachy wrote: I'm really not that up on the Hyborian Age, and I have absolutely no time whatsoever. But I'd really like to get in on this. It's just another name for Conan's world (and Kull's if we include that history). There's a thousand places you could set a story. REH didn't fill in a lot of detail on any of these places or people; you can look online to find out exactly what he wrote about them and extrapolate from there. Avoid the pastiches and the game-related info and just stick to REH. But I'm presuming you've read some Conan sometime. Even if not, just look at it as medieval level tech, throw in a supernatural element and set it in an analog for a real-world place. He said almost nothing about Khitai; just pretend you're making a new Chinese myth, for example. Or a pirate story. Or a tale of a treasure hunt in a lost valley. Or as Simon says, a tale of the Swedish vs Norwegian analogs (Vanirmen vs Aesir, though land-locked). Here's a link on those people. http://conan.wikia.com/wiki/Nordheim. And here: http://hyboria.xoth.net/gazetteer/asgard.htmYou can see there's not a lot of info you have to follow. It's really wide-open. I'd love to see what you can come up with. And I figured some other IMWANkers would take a stab.

Actually, REH's Conan stories are public domain in the UK and Australia, and the original works from Weird Tales are public domain even in the US. However, Conan Properties owns Conan, and probably the rights to use anything by name in a new or derivative work. It's just that anyone can reprint the original works if they like.

Well, guys, never mind. "October 30th or UNTIL FULL".
It's full.
He sez there will be a second volume. Details when available.
But y'all check out that link. There's openings there for a LOT of stories in all genres. There's one for a Space Western type thingie which I may try to rework the Redbone story for. Deadline is in December.

Space western? Hmmm… nah. That's Star Trek. Well, I've already got something written in that sub-genre. Just need to rework it. It's just limited to the Asteroid Belt so I have to slide that story back about 200 years. The character's immortal so that would work. I really want to finish the comic though. Drawing, the comic, I mean.
