Product Description
NOW (Chicago XXXVI) is the band's first new album of original material since the release of XXX in 2006, and once again these icons offer their signature fiery, jazz-rooted brass arrangements over slick pop rock songs.

When Chicago exploded onto the music scene with their stellar 1969 double-LP debut, Chicago Transit Authority, the band's innovative fusion of up-front horns in a rock 'n' roll context and impeccable pop sensibilities was an instant smash. According to Billboard chart history and stats, Chicago is second only to the Beach Boys as the most successful American rock band of all time, in terms of both album and singles sales. Judged by album sales alone, as certified by the R.I.A.A., the band is still among the Top Ten best-selling U.S. groups in history.

Quote:
Considered one of the longest running and most successful pop/rock 'n' roll groups in history, Chicago is the highest charting American band in Billboard Magazine's list of Top 100 artists of all time, coming in at #13.

Lifetime achievements include a Grammy Award, multiple American Music Awards, elected as Founding Artists to the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, a Star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, a Chicago street dedicated in their honor, and Keys to and Proclamations from an impressive list of US cities.

Formed in 1967 in Chicago, the "legendary rock band with horns" released their first album "Chicago Transit Authority" in 1969. Since then, they have had record sales top the 100,000,000 mark, and include 21 Top 10 singles, 5 consecutive Number One albums, 11 Number One singles and 5 Gold singles. An incredible 25 of their 34 albums have been certified platinum, and the band has a total of 47 gold and platinum awards.

In 2014, their debut album "The Chicago Transit Authority" was inducted into the Grammy Hall Of Fame. This was followed by announcement of their 2014 summer tour with REO Speedwagon, a televised performance on the 2014 Grammy Awards CBS broadcast, and the scheduled release of "NOW" Chicago XXXVI in July 2014.

Looks like that's going to be a general release, but it's not up at Amazon yet. The EPK was put on Vimeo and there's no embeddable YouTube version. SoundCloud samples, also not embeddable. What a mess of a rollout. :?

I've posted an image up top which is likely to be the cover.

I was on their website over the weekend looking at this stuff. It's nice to see a mature band like this, one that has virtually no shot at radio, take control of their release the way they have. Hopefully the material will be better than their former attempts. I do like what I've heard so far in the lossless downloads that I've purchased from their website, so I'm cautiously optimistic.

I really like the clips of the new tracks in the EPK, and a good deal of what's on SoundCloud. Cautiously optimistic!

I can't wait for this album! It seems like my favorite band is finally doing something right.

Renny, the album numbering has been murky for about 10 years. The last Christmas album (O Christmas Three) was #33, while the Live In '75 release was #34 (even though it came out before #33). Guessing time: It's possible that #35 was the 2-disc Christmas album that contained all the band's holiday songs. If so, that's lame. Could #35 be the recently re-released Live In Japan? It was never previously part of the numbered series. I'm not sure at all, but I'm so excited about #36 that I guess it really doesn't matter. Apparently, they've already begun working on #37. Cool!

The Wikipedia page does a good job of listing the albums by number, but there's no info for XXXV.

They're gonna have to pick up their recording pace to catch up to the Super Bowls.

Saw Chicago last Summer in concert and they still bring it on stage. Would love a decent album from them.

We saw them a year and a half ago or so and our feeling was the same...very professional and a lot of effort. I have no problem with the personnel changes that they've made. It's still a bunch of talented musicians and to me, as long as the core of Pankow, Loughnane and Lamm is in tact, they'll be fine. We're actually seeing them this summer on a double bill with REO Speedwagon.

Love their present guitarist Keith Howland.

John...have you heard the Howland/Imboden Project CD? If not, it's good stuff.

Huge Chicago fan and here's to hoping for a good release.

Last studio album worth a damn to me was Chicago 21 which was quite a good one.

This cover reminds me (color scheme anyway) of Chicago XIV.

I wouldn't mind seeing them this summer, but it will be just the hits and I can't stand REO Speedwagon so, pass for me.

In any case, I'd really enjoy a good album from these guys.

I'm probably going to get this out of curiosity, but that's probably the worst use of the iconic Chicago logo I've seen yet.

I don't think any of their covers have been as good since John Berg quit designing them. He was very careful that the logo was always the same size and in the same position on the cover. When they started messing with that, their covers became less distinctive.

Back when The Gap was considering a logo change, I wrote a blog about how the increasing marginalization of the Chicago logo on their album covers may or may not have damaged their brand with fans.

Nice article, Paul. Compared to Twenty 1, the new album's logo is an instant classic. I could not understand why they released that album without the logo. Most of the songs were good ("You Come To My Senses", notwithstanding), but the CD went straight to the cutout bins. I'm sure there were other factors responsible for the album's relative failure, but why would you disassociate yourself from the brand identity you successfully cultivated over 25 years? Still a headscratcher....

I'm really enjoying the sample clips for the new album on Soundcloud. I noticed there's a lot of Robert Lamm songs on this album. The other albums that were predominantly written by RL are Chicago Transit Authority and Chicago V, and that's not bad company to be in.
